The Dutch Know How To Party

moonsammy says...

That's absolutely happening here - it's a really good practical example of the speed of sound. It doesn't really take much distance for the effect to be noticeable - I was in marching band in high school and when we were spread out across a football field it was *really* important we pay attention to the conductor, or everything would end up sounding super muddled to the audience.

Is it me or can you see the crowd father away from the stage lagging behind a bit?

If you have a venue sufficiently enormous the sound does take a little longer to travel back. I'd be super excited if that was the case!

We called it "drum and bugle corps" when I did it (Santa Clara Vanguard, DCI '98). Basically a military-discipline civilian marching band competition tour across the US.

Doesn't the 2nd Amendment read:
"A well regulated Marching Band, being necessary to the security of a free Football Team, the right of the popular people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." ?

Its "military marching". I was in some of the best military marching bands in high school and in college. Here's an example of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band routine. We learned a new routine each week during football season.

Shows the 4-way cross that they are famous for. Basically putting 4 people in the same spot.

Excellent article CE. As someone who misses reading knowledgeable liner notes and critiques of form and structure, and listens to a well-balanced slathering of all kinna sounds, including Norwegian death metal, trad jazz, rockabilly, or forty-minute Ravi Shankar jams...Even dig me some traditional hymns and marching band from time to time. Fuck, I'd sing that Muslim adhan from a minaret in Morocco if they'd let me make-up my own words.

Blue Devils Brass Band - Space Chords = Mind Blown

fuzzyundies says...

A little background: the Concord Blue Devils is a Drum and Bugle Corps, which is like a marching band for athletes and masochists. They do field show competitions like the halftime marching band shows you've seen at football games, but unlike school marching bands, they have (usually) 64 horns, 24 drums, 24 color guard and an almost militaristic training regimen. They rehearse weekly throughout the year and then train and compete on the road all summer, 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, split between strength, calisthenics, music and marching. That's how they build their discipline and cohesion. I marched with their main competitor in the late 90s.

PlayhousePals says...

I know a story [or two]. While in high school, my sister was in the All City Marching Band. She and a couple of friends slipped away for a pre-parade smoke in an alley only to find JP doing the same thing. He swore them to secrecy. It was one of the highlights of her youth =oD

His tracks are all starting to sound a lot the same to me, but this one was better than most.

Although what was the clip of the marching band? That's not from pulp fiction, so he's cheating
