MMA fighters get chiropractic adjustment

Payback says...

Why is the junk science of chiropractic still a thing? It's like homeopathy.

Any "medical procedure" that claims to rid the body of cancers by causing gases to forcibly be extracted from cartilage is the worst form of snake oil.

I heavily edited my comment because it came out much harsher in text.

Sounds like you've been thru a lot. I can only wish you well.

I used to suffer from nephrotic syndrome, I nearly died in my teens. I had ulcers opening up on my skin, my joints so swollen they would not bend. Daily blood tests etc. A plant based diet saved my life and as you can tell I can not stop telling people about it.

It seems to solve almost every western chronic disease. And even though the science backs it up clearly doctors and the public see it in the same category as homeopathy. I don't know what is keeping you so ill but I can tell with confidence that if you eat the ForksOverKnives.com way you will have more time at the very least. I can only encourage you to try it for a week or two and feel it for yourself.

I've been living on borrowed time for a long time. I'm reminded of it every day. I'm not afraid. I only have now to live. How about you?

Top 7 Most Bizarre Musical Instruments of the World

MilkmanDan says...

I knew them all minus the Otamatone (?) thing that didn't work.

My anti-theremin bias remains. The slide whistle could at least produce consistent near pitch-perfect notes if you practiced with it to get used to the slide locations. Theremin seems consistently inconsistent even if you've got masterful steady hands and loads of practice. The voodoo or homeopathy of instruments.

Homeopathy Explained – Gentle Healing or Reckless Fraud?

Drachen_Jager says...

The core idea behind homeopathy is that water has memory.

So if you put Caffeine in water it "remembers" the Caffeine and when you reduce the amount enough, that causes it to become "negative" which means it'll put you to sleep.

So since all water on Earth has been exposed to other water that was once in contact with every conceivable medication, perhaps we should just drink water instead of paying for some magic water? After all, every bit of water you drink has some molecules that were dinosaur piss once upon a time.

Homeopathy Explained – Gentle Healing or Reckless Fraud?

notarobot says...

There are some core philosophies withing homeopathy that have some merit for some cases (e.g. treat like from like, stop unhealthy activities to heal...) but it is mostly practiced and promoted by charlatans.

Most of the good ideas that homeopathy came up with were adopted by mainstream medicine anyway.

Homeopathy Explained – Gentle Healing or Reckless Fraud?

ChaosEngine says...

Hmmm, even though I love Kurzgesagt and this is an informative video. There are easy answers to the questions posed at the start.

How does homeopathy work? It doesn't.
How did it become what it is today? People are easily swindled.
What can modern medicine learn from it? NOTHING.

Yeah, they go on to talk about viewing the patient as a person, etc, but that is not that important. I don't want my doctor sitting down and having a chat with everyone, I want them to treat them and move on to the next patient. Maybe when we get to our AI-led post-scarcity utopia, but right now, medicine (like everything else) is a game of finite resources. Do you really want to waste the time of a highly trained (and highly paid) medical professional? Because while they're talking to you about your vague sense of unease, someone else is dying.

How not to be Angry all the Time

SeesThruYou says...

Well, that's an interesting theory, at least. You know, like homeopathy is interesting to some people. I get angry at the idiots of the world who deliberately cause issues, not because I lost my car keys. Keys can be found, but stupid cannot be fixed.

That's not what you said. I quoted where you called homeopathy and creationism a false equivalence. . I merely removed the blahblahblah. Sigh all you want. If you're going to pull a Trump, I'm out.

harlequinn said:

Sigh.

It's a false equivalence because he's suggesting this situation:

Arguing whether it is OK for a Catholic based hospital to not offer services they don't want to offer.

Is the same as:

Arguing against creationism and homeopathy as dogma in general.

Nothing false about it. Same shit, different pile. Neither has any basis in reality.

Once again, not an argument. At least you admit you don't have one to give.

I don't buy the "it's a waste of my time" bullshit. You "wasted" your time watching the video, reading the article, replying to the link, replying to my comment, etc. Suddenly when you're called out on your lack of argument you don't have the time. Bwahahahaaha.

Somehow I get the feeling you don't work in the field (medicine) like me, and if you are able to form a coherent argument about it, it will be from a layperson's perspective.

Creationism and homeopathy are false equivalences. Not even a good try.

Go read my reply to JustSaying above. This is how hospitals work.

ChaosEngine said:

I know that. I have 0 fucks to give about that article, and I'm certainly not going to waste my time rebutting it point by point, any more than I'm going to debate creationism or homeopathy.

John Oliver - Republican Reactions to the Lewd Remarks

ChaosEngine says...

See, this is why I don't engage with you other than to mock you.

You have no idea how debate works.

If I told you Donald Trump was a lizard, you would expect me to provide evidence. Simply saying "google it" is lazy and ineffectual. I could find a source on google for just about any claim (the earth is flat, homeopathy works, Steve McQueen was Jesus reincarnated).... doesn't mean any of them are credible sources.

Now, I tried to engage with you on this, because I think sexual assault is pretty fucking horrific, even if I had a previously favourable opinion of the perpetrator.

But if you're not willing to provide a credible source, I'm just going to assume this more of your usual complete bullshit and move on.

Jim Gaffigan: Disagree? Calling Them a Moron Won't Help

ChaosEngine says...

See, there are plenty of things we can disagree on and have a rational conversation about.

Are important services better provided by private corporations or government departments?
Does your right to free expression override other people's right to freedom from harassment?
How can we manage the economy while protecting the environment?
Most of these come down to individualism vs collectivism, and that's far from a settled question; I personally doubt it can be settled... life is too nuanced.

But there are some questions that are settled. The vote is in and the answer is known, and if you disagree, well, you're just on the wrong side of history. You are the Catholic church arguing the earth is the centre of the universe.

If you think that it's ok to discriminate against gay people.... you're a moron.
If you think climate change is a hoax... you're a moron.
If you're a creationist... you're a moron.
If you believe in homeopathy... you're a moron.

I don't have to "convince" you that those things are true. Your opinion on them is irrelevant. So is mine. They are done. If I change my mind tomorrow and decide that creationism is real, it won't alter reality one bit.

This is the problem with Trump.

I disagreed with Romney. I didn't like him and I felt a lot of his ideas were bad. Hell, I'm not a huge fan of Clinton either. But it's possible to have a rational discussion on their stances.

Trump may have one or two semi-reasonable positions, but so what? They are completely overshadowed by all his awful positions.
