The IG report is perhaps damning of the FBI to an extent, but it seems like it's a story of a failure to follow protocol. They may have been apprehensive about it given the agency's usual staying-out of politics amid an election, or considering they didn't find anything on the first go-round, they suspected there wasn't anything else to find in subsequent emails (which their wasn't).

It IS worth pointing out in the IG report that Comey and other FBI used a private email server to conduct gov business. Not long ago that would have been plenty to disqualify him from running at all. I think what Alan is trying to say is that every prosecutor has discretion. Comey isn't guilty of obstructing justice because he decided Clinton wasn't guilty with her email server. He's not guilty of obstruction because he didn't investigate Seth Rich's murder as it related to the DNC and wikileaks. These are all judgement calls. And he's saying as President, Trump has the ultimate authority in judgement calls in what to investigate, and it's completely legal to say investigate this, don't investigate that, or fire someone to stop an investigation. Furthermore, congress has the unilateral power to impeach him if they think any behavior of his is improper. It doesn't need to be illegal and isn't reviewable by a court. They could impeach him for putting katsup on his steak and that would be legal.

If you piece together all of her statements on a plethora of different topics, it is inescapably obvious that they (!) truly have no connection to anyone or anything outside their bubble. A whole lot of people have to adhere to tedious rules and procedures, with severe punishment looming just around the corner. One guy was in the press for receiving three years of prison after he placed a document on the wrong desk. So, if the FBI drags out the investigation or even buries it, you can bet your ass that a lot of people at different agencies are going to be fuming. And between the FBI, the NSA and CIA, a lot of people have access to the remaining emails from Clinton's server. That opens Clinton up to blackmail, a lot of it. Can't have a compromised president. Not to mention that someone's going to take the data and just drop it over at WikiLeaks or the Intercept.

If people think that other mail providers don't do this too, then they have blinders on. Do you have any idea how easy it is to intercept email on a normal email server? It doesn't have to be webmail, and it doesn't have to be Google. Microsoft (or whoever) can claim that because they don't show ads based on the context of your email it means they're not "reading it" all they want but I'm sorry, it's not true.

If you don't want people reading your email, you should be encrypting it. Period. It's foolish to think anything you do online is in any way "private".
