Don't worry about it, i don't know much about american politics. In fact, i don't know a great deal about politics, i've just been around long enough to see that all politicians want the same thing - to be more powerful/richer politicians. I just don't think they represent people any more. If i knew how to make people care or how to fix it, i would.

I have this horrible feeling especially in my country that there's some sort of status quo whereby generation after generation has been raised with this silent but certain belief that politicians are above reproach - they can't possibly be keeping us placid with lies about what their true aims are whilst furthering their own interests. But why should this era be any different to past eras where that sort of thing was commonplace? Because we have "society" and "civilisation" now?

Check that picture i linked. It's perverse, it's obvious, it's absolutely terrifying to think that they are the people in charge and what they care about most is what they get paid. I can't think of anyone i'd want less to be in charge of my future than that. Most of the people in the bottom picture were born into the right circles to get where they got.

Democracy was a great idea, but not in the form we have it. It isn't democratic anymore, and it needs a radical overhaul or i think we're going to be milked like cows for as long as the illusion holds. We're being milked now - the balance of wealth continues to fall out of balance, the big money organisations and corporations buy the guy in charge and as long as it's done in a certain way it's considered "legal" despite we know it's immoral, the masses get their news from TV and newspapers which are often owned by or have identical interests to the same people who own the politicians. Everyone seems to see it happening but no one seems to connect the dots.

The only people who benefit from instigating democratic change like we need are the people, and the people don't seem interested. I don't mean to sound like a tinfoil hatter, but i can only call things as i see them. And sorry for walloftext, i was pretty much pontificating there.

Male Cops Strip Woman During DUI Arrest

Jerykk says...

http://www.rita.dot.gov/bts/sites/rita.dot.gov.bts/files/publications/by_the_numbers/drunk_driving/index.html

Considering the damage that drunk driving causes, a strip search is a pretty lenient punishment for a DUI arrest. But hey, let's ignore the fact that thousands of people are killed in drunk driving-related incidents. A woman is being embarrassed! This is an outrage!

If the woman wasn't driving drunk, she'd have my sympathy. But I have no sympathy for drunk drivers, male or female. They deserve every punishment they get.

Speed Kills Your Pocketbook

shatterdrose says...

So really the issue is people are doing something illegal and getting busted for it. The government is aware that people will routinely break said law and are profiting off it.

So the real issue is that the government is acting as a for-profit organization, right? That still doesn't negate that people are breaking the law and getting busted for it. If the drivers followed the speed limit, then the government couldn't profit off them, now could they? *smacks forehead*

See, with red light cameras there's a legitimate argument to be made. If a driver is following the speed limit, and break safely, there is a set time the yellow light should progress in order to insure compliance and safety. So for instance, if a vehicle traveling at 30MPH takes 10 seconds to come to a slow, controlled stop, the yellow should last for 12 seconds to ensure the drivers a reasonable time to notice the light change and react. (Normal human reaction time is between .3 to 2 seconds.)

So if the government sets the yellow to only 5 seconds, this creates an unsafe and unreasonable margin. And then, if the safest and more sane thing to do is "run the red" and are subsequently ticketed, then that's entrapment. That is wrong, and is something someone can complain about.

Complaining that you got caught speeding, well, boohoo for you. Don't speed. No one is forcing you to speed. So it's your own damn fault, no matter if the government is profiting off it or what video is posted.

If what you're really complaining about is that the actual design of the road triggers a natural response to travel at a "perceived safe speed" (which is a real thing) and the limit is set to a lower than needed limit, then that's something you can complain about. Still doesn't mean speeding isn't illegal.

Speed traps don't work in general. All they trigger is a momentary change in behavior and once the negative force is removed, the behavior continues. But because of the quota systems placed by "hard on crime" Republicans, real change isn't going to happen. Instead what you're seeing is a systematic failure of a rewards and punishment system that has long been proven to be ineffective and counter-productive.

Instead, if they really want to slow speeds, they should redesign the road and perhaps do a road diet, re-stripe the lanes, use bricks or plant trees (which is illegal by DOT standards btw - they hurt cars if they crash, but people don't, so it's better to hit people than trees - no joke, literally their logic.)

Or, if you're worried the police force is resorting to the quota and a misguided broken windows policy, then that's something to address. You're lack of ability to lay off the gas pedal is not a "liberties" issue or the "man putting you down."

The focus is totally misguided and the video is proof.

Governments are profiting from unnecessary ticketing of speeders? I must have missed that somewhere. Oh wait there's a whole video about it at the top of the page!! *smacks forehead*

How to Photograph the Earth from Space

Interesting info:
The colourful dots you see all over the shot at the start as he is talking, are pixels in the CCD of the camera that have been hit by radiation from space!

The pixels have been exposed to energetic particles with such intensity that they no longer see a gradient between light and dark, its all light....the pixel has been 'saturated' to the point of damage.

The detail is best seen in full screen @720p. You wont see them in the lower-resolution streams.

Cheech & Chong: Con Talk

dystopianfuturetoday says...

"At one point in time, space travel only existed in science fiction, but with time and hard work, it eventually became a reality. In present day America, it seems impossible that we will ever rid our country of it's primitive, backwards, sociopathic gun culture, but just as sure as we evolved to be capable of space travel, we will also, one day, gain the wisdom to evolve past our current violent pupal stage.

Maybe not today, or tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, or the day after that.... but one day.

I know these words might come as an insult to those unable to dream of a better world, or for those who cling to the status quo like a piss stained security blanket woven of rotten flesh and broken bones, but there have always been people whom insist that the world is flat, the center of the universe and mounted on the back of a great turtle.

Evolution is not easy, but evolve we must. If we are ever to have any hope of co-habitating on this tiny pale blue dot, it is the only path forward."

Just FYI, each of the 10-20 thousand dots are lumps of mass, so massive in size that they each fuse millions of tons of hydrogen into helium every second, releasing, every second, each of the 10-20 thousand of them, more energy than has, or probably ever will be, used by every human being, combined. Thats MILLIONS of Hiroshima-sized nuclear bombs going off, every second, right in front of your eyes. In the foreground, Manmade objects are in constant freefall towards earth, missing only because they are brilliantly engineered and built to travel at extreme speeds. While all thats happening, a rock the size of an office building sails by. If it had hit us, it could easily have wiped out a medium sized country and collapsed the global economy. So yeah.. white dots.
