I was the crash test dummy for a demonstration when I was at University. It was my second time at the dojo. I was told "just stand there and give me your hand" The "opponent" was 5'2" and weighed maybe 100lbs soaking wet. She had me on my ass so fast I'm still not sure what happened. Used properly, especially when your attacker is moving toward you, it is remarkably effective.

Also interesting, Frager is a friend of Stanley Pranin who came and gave a private lecture at my dojo last year, about the early history of Ōsensei. So if we're playing "Six Degrees of Morihei Ueshiba", I think we're 2 degrees twice over.

Agreed, this guys attitude is terrible.
Fact is, boxers generally ARE difficult to deal with. They're generally fit, and more importantly they can usually take a hit far better than a lot of other martial artists.

Which is why humility is important. Even in a dojo, you don't necessarily know the life experience of your opponent. They might have just walked in the door and be a complete noob in your art, but they may have also trained for years in another discipline. Courtesy and respect go a long way.

Yeah, that whole guy who looks / nods down is the beta dude. It's crap. All these pickup artist sites promote that myth. Years ago, at my dojo we had a sixty-something black belt -- forget his dan but it was waay up there -- visit our club from Japan. Dude was amazingly fast and fit.
At one point, during the day's workshop we locked eyes and he bowed ever so slightly. But he never broke eye contact with me. There was no doubt as to who was the alpha male -- and it weren't me.
