Obama U-turns for Raytheon

vairetube says...

Damn, this is fun:

An officer, who was a Central American COS and later Deputy Chief of LA Division in the late 1980s, says that Honduras was not an attractive location for drug traffickers during this time period.... He says that, if CIA or other U.S. Government organizations operating in Honduras had acquired information indicating that the Contras were engaged in narcotics trafficking, it would have--or should have--been disseminated in intelligence reports. He makes clear that CIA was not alone in its intelligence collection and reporting efforts in Honduras and that large amounts of intelligence were collected by other U.S. Government agencies. Reports of Contra drug trafficking, he says, would probably have been a topic of discussion at the Interagency Working Group that was run by DoS official Elliott Abrams.

---

Well, then... if Abrams said it was all kosher then hey! We can trust him.

https://www.cia.gov/library/reports/general-reports-1/cocaine/contra-story/findings.html

Oooh wait a minute:
"...Abrams entered into a plea agreement that ultimately led to a conviction without imprisonment on two misdemeanors of withholding information from Congress."

Hmm.. well, now I just dunno what to think... perhaps he is only a liar on certain things. I guess we can just not worry about it. I don't.

Here's a funny conversation I imagined:

Oh hey I heard Saddam is going to launch an attack with WMD's... lets go build up our troops prior to invasion within the range of the SCUDS we KNOW he has that could be fitted with these WMD's.... Why just use airstrikes which prevent potential massive US troop casualties.. ....oh, he doesnt actually have WMDS? haha good one! you had me worried. now it makes sense. good on ya's lad. now lets get a drink and count our no bid contracts!

PS: Criminal behavior is bad.

Mr. Reich never was charged with any crime...the line about convictions does need to go under poindexter.. but hey, if I say it enough it will become true anyway, right.. but I'm ok with just this info:

From 1983 to 1986, Reich established and managed the inter-agency Office of Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean. He was accused by Congress of engaging in "prohibited, covert propaganda activities" in his efforts to promote the Reagan administration's policies toward Nicaragua.

The OPD declassified Central Intelligence Agency information and disseminated it to influence public opinion and spur Congress to continue to fund the Reagan's administration's campaign against Nicaragua's Sandinista government.

The OPD was highly controversial and was criticized by numerous government sources, including a staff report by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which characterized it as a domestic political and propaganda operation.

The OPD also violated “a restriction on the State Department’s annual appropriations prohibiting the use of federal funds for publicity or propaganda purposes not authorized by Congress.”

He also helped terrorist Orlando Bosch gain entry into the U.S. after being imprisoned in Venezuela for bombing a Cuban airliner, killing its 73 passengers. Bosch spent time in a U.S. prison for attacking a Polish merchant vessel bound for Cuba. Thirty countries have refused Bosch asylum because of his criminality.

You saw the part of : "Abrams was pardoned by President George H. W. Bush " .. not too shabby a deal. then his son could hire him!

and re: Poindexter "The convictions were reversed in 1991 on technical grounds ". which means what it says... technicality, not that he wasnt actually a scumbag liar.

So, go ahead and apologize for these liars. I'm sure they can't get enough republican hugs and free jobs.

Now, remember, my mistake immediately means GWBUSH never appointed any criminals. That's logical. I guess not getting caught = good behavior in your book, too...

You know what, I'll just google the phrase: convicted criminals appointed by bush .
Here's a start for you:
John Poindexter, Convicted of conspiracy, lying to Congress.
Appointed to head DARPA by Bush [...in December 2002]

"The convictions were reversed in 1991 on the technical grounds that the prosecution's evidence may have been tainted by exposure to Poindexter's testimony before the joint House-Senate committee investigating the matter, in which Poindexter's testimony was compelled by a grant of 'use immunity'. The prosecution was not able to re-try the case."

Elliot Abrams, Pleaded guilty in 1991 to withholding information from Congress in the Iran-contra affair. Appointed as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Global Democracy Strategy by Bush [...in June 2001]

"Instead, Abrams entered into a plea agreement that ultimately led to a conviction without imprisonment on two misdemeanors of withholding information from Congress. He was fined $50, placed on probation for two years, and assigned 100 hours of community service. Abrams was pardoned by President George H. W. Bush as he was leaving office following his loss in the 1992 U.S. presidential election."

Otto Reich, Convicted in 1990 on five felony charges of conspiracy.
Appointed by Bush to direct Inter American affairs at the State Department. President Bush used the tricky recess appointment procedure to bypass potential hostile and damaging questioning by Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

can't find any evidence as to your otto reich contention - cite, please?
And that's just the stuff we already know they did.

Farhad2000 says...

Ahh Right Wing historical revisionism.

Never looking at Reagen's record expenditure on nuclear armament, star wars, iran contra, trickle down economics and so much more. How was that as a economic stimulus?

Let's not forget the constant axiom held that free markets would allows a growing market, well insider trading of sub prime mortgages was about as close to a free market as you got, yet look how that panned out. The SEC and Credit approves all rolled over to allow big business to fuck up even more, which was then rescued by government bailout. Free market engineering allowed Enron to jack California for money over power, because somehow Alan Greenspan thought everyone would simply self regulate themselves.

What about defense spending? privatization of military contracts and logistics was supposed to save the government money instead it spends even more now on logistics and upkeep routinely private firms would blow up equipment and charge ungodly rates to the government.

Right wing nut economics has always been about privatizing profits while socializing the costs. Relying solely on outdated criticisms on FDR and LBJ. What happened with Bush you guys? What was that about small government?

No you can't afford tax cuts when you have run away deficit and a crumbling infrastructure. The same ones built through government expenditure.

Constitutional_Patriot says...

We can only hope that they will ultimately honor their oath to the Constitution instead of a corrupt administration that could easily abuse their power of the military.

It would be a horrible irony to see our trusted military (which took an oath to defend the law of the land) execute unconstitutional anti-citizen/citizen suppression in such a manner as to harm their fellow countrymen.
Hopefully there will be enough commanders that follow the UCMJ which clearly dictates that it is not only a member of the military's right but however is their duty to not follow illegal orders.

"I,____________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice."

The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) 809.ART.90 (20), makes it clear that military personnel need to obey the "lawful command of his superior officer," 891.ART.91 (2), the "lawful order of a warrant officer", 892.ART.92 (1) the "lawful general order", 892.ART.92 (2) "lawful order". In each case, military personnel have an obligation and a duty to only obey Lawful orders and indeed have an obligation to disobey Unlawful orders, including orders by the president that do not comply with the UCMJ. The moral and legal obligation is to the U.S. Constitution and not to those who would issue unlawful orders, especially if those orders are in direct violation of the Constitution and the UCMJ.

During the Iran-Contra hearings of 1987, Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, a decorated World War II veteran and hero, told Lt. Col. Oliver North that North was breaking his oath when he blindly followed the commands of Ronald Reagan. As Inouye stated, "The uniform code makes it abundantly clear that it must be the Lawful orders of a superior officer. In fact it says, 'Members of the military have an obligation to disobey unlawful orders.' This principle was considered so important that we-we, the government of the United States, proposed that it be internationally applied in the Nuremberg trials." (Bill Moyers, "The Secret Government", Seven Locks Press; also in the PBS 1987 documentary, "The Secret Government: The Constitution in Crisis")

I remember having to study this when I was in boot camp in the USAF so I thought to look this up.

We have to trust our men and women in Uniform - there is little other choice really.

It seems far out there, but its not a joke.

I'm trying to find all the things that tell me this stuff isn't true but I cant seem to find any thing on the internet that tells me its fake.

Its been around since the 1980s after the contra.

Not trying to be alarmist, but this is the first I've heard of this.

There are places that have huge plots of land with plastic boxes stacked up, look like coffins.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wV3vc9kDEM&NR=1

These are coffin liners, but according to these guys they havent been used for interment of bodies at normal graveyards.

This is questionable, stuff.

Angry Video Game Nerd: Batman Part II

ChosenOne says...

Oh ba. Batman Return of the Joker is one of my all time favorite NES games. It can be difficult but no where near as hard as he makes it seem. He was playing it all wrong, the slide attack is essential to dodging in the game, he just wasnt using it enough. And the boss battles for an NES game were pretty epic, like a mix of contra style play but with rpg style life bars. The one thing he said thats dead on is the music. Some of the best NES action music theyve made.

Top 10 Most Difficult Games

phelixian says...

I can't really agree with this list, but it sure is a walk down memory lane. Contra on ps2 was insane tough. Most R-types are pretty tough. Maximo(the extension of ghouls and ghosts) was hard as hell. Link? whatever.

Top 10 Most Difficult Games

I can't upvote this horrible list.

Obviously these posers have never played MDK2, Target Earth, Contra Hard Core, etc...

And putting a Zelda game on the list is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time...

Top 10 Most Difficult Games

AnimalsForCrackers says...

TMNT was hard because it was horridly designed. Yep, Ikaruga was on the DC first, not surprised GT missed that. DMC3? Shinobi on the PS2? Don't these games have to qualify as being good, too? In that case, Dragon's Lair for the NES is the hardest game ever! F-Zero GX was a pleasant surprise, as far as racing games go, I agree. Ghosts'n'Goblins is the name of the series. Ghouls followed later, not a series. Ninja Gaiden, nuff said. Surprised there was no Contra 4, it is 2d-schmup bliss (Contra/Super C are unlockables!) with a difficulty so manly you have to shave after playing. Though this looks like an older GT countdown, based on the look.
