How to lose your job as a weatherman

8266 says...

Zany weather guy Mark Mathis, 38, who was fired from Charlotte's WCCB-18-Fox in November (Market #28) because the station felt "publicly humiliated" by his decision to seek treatment for alcoholism, has been hired as the new weather guesser at KREX-5-CBS in Grand Junction, Colorado (Market #189). He will replace Jarrod Luber, 32, who was found dead in October 2003 at the base of Red Canyon overlook in the Colorado National Monument. He fell approximately 250 feet. Investigators later ruled his death a suicide. Mathis will start at KREX later this month.

Mark Mathis - whose unpredictable, improvisational weather forecasts on Charlotte's Fox affiliate amused some viewers and infuriated others over the last two years was fired this week by WCCB-TV, two weeks after checking into rehabilitation for alcohol and substance abuse problems. "They called me here at the hospital and basically said they're `terminating your employment with Fox,' " said Mathis, 38, in a telephone interview

Interestingly enough, from one visit down to NC last year to my grandparents and getting a taste of Southern food, I occasionally crave it. Not really the fried stuff though.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Well, fried okra is pretty spectacular.

In reply to this comment by JAPR:
Hehe, I'm just teasing, don't worry. My grandparents actually are transplants, but I do have a lot of Southern friends, they just like to make jokes about the stereotypes (stereotypes are fun as long as you don't really take them seriously, etc.). My grandparents live near Charlotte, though I can't for the life of me remember the name of the town right now.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
I was born and raised in North Carolina, so taking from my personal experience I'd have to disagree with you. It's a retarded stereotype, and I'm shocked your friends from the South would say, "...as a general rule, Southerners don't know shit beyond fried food." Unless, of course, they're transplants, which would make perfect sense.

What part of NC does your grandparents live?

In reply to this comment by JAPR:
My grandparents live in North Carolina and I have a few friends that live in the South. They agree with me that, as a general rule, Southerners don't know shit beyond fried food.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Nah, she's just a Southerner.

I bet you've never even been to the south.

I've watched this about ten times now (mainly because I heart Charlotte Church), and I still can't get over how unbelievably slurred Amy Winehouse is singing this song. God, she has such a great voice; but goddamn, she's such a junkie loser. People with natural talent who throw it away like her are a crying shame.

Montessori Education

swampgirl says...

Excellent post, thankyou. This curriculum is clearly a "what you make of it" kind. Desipite it's questionable beginnings, it has lots of merit. And I agree qruel, ANY school has to be better than a US public school.

If you find Montessori interesting, I would love your opinion on the Charlotte Mason Method. There seems to be a big crossover between the two. Montessori and Charlotte Mason share the idea that children are born with the ability to acquire knowledge independently though whole, stimulating materials. I've noticed CM folks and selling Montessori manipulatives on Ebay as well.
Charlotte Mason's ideas are making a big comeback in the Homeschooling community.

In our home we're currently attempting a happy blend between Charlotte Mason and classical education methods.

philip anselmo is an awesome singer.. lost his touch these days of course... but as a band they are the indominatable kings. Scum like trivium have leeched off of darrell abbots commercialism of his death. Trivium are shitbags. Metal is not as big as it use to be and completely different. the late 80's-90's was the prime for it. Now we have stupid little indie/emo kids (not saying indie is crap some of it is good in areas but emo is a pile of mindless banter about kids who think they have it hard and have a singer/s who latch on to the same whiney american voice, good examples of this are good charlotte and who are too insecure about... nevermind i'm ranting hard! night
