How The Dinosaurs Actually Died

newtboy says...

“Witnesses”? 😂 I have some questions for them.

There’s actually more evidence the asteroid wasn’t the major dinosaur killer…the KT boundary layer, created by the asteroid dust and charcoal from global fires is NOT full of dinosaur bones. If one event killed 75% of species and 95% of all biomass, that geological layer would be absolutely full of fossils, but it’s not…it’s nearly empty, but the layers preceding it show a steady decline in animal populations long before the final death blow.

Yellowstone, the American super volcano, is overdue for a similarly disastrous eruption.
Our grasp of volcanology is far too tenuous to claim we would have a million years of warning before a similar major eruption. We might get no warning at all. Surprise eruptions aren’t abnormal even with all our monitoring…and the strength of eruptions is almost always a surprise.

The acidification of the ocean that preceded the other climate-caused extinction events is occurring today. Once diatoms and plankton can no longer create their exoskeletons the ocean food web dissolves, then the land food web dissolves, then clouds of hydrogen gas start erupting from the deep ocean when bacteria consume the billions of tons of dead ocean life, further poisoning the oceans and atmosphere. Yes, that will likely take hundreds or even thousands of years to play out, but the food webs are already falling apart from other pressures before the plankton even fails. Interesting unprecedented times are ahead.

Country Time | Legal-Ade

Hilarious.
I hope they deny the water girl in SF.

A girl and her mom set up shop in front of a residential building they don't live at and all day screamed their water selling slogans at passersby. They were repeatedly asked to move by building security, and they refused. Eventually, a resident came out and asked them to move and called local police (not 911) to see if they needed a permit. She is being portrayed as another BBQ Becky (the woman who called police about people illegally charcoal grilling in a public park annoying park users) as if there's something wrong with calling police on people breaking the law.
She, not the water sellers, should have access to free legal advice.
It's disgusting to me that so many have jumped on the 'lets call them racists and viciously mob them if they're caught in public because they are white and they called police on black people....people who were actually breaking the law and being exceptionally rude and disruptive about it when asked to move to a legal area.' bandwagon.

The Diversity of Local Independent News

RedSky says...

From: http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/07/media/sinclair-broadcasting-promos-media-bashing/index.html

The instructions for producing and airing the localized versions went into great detail about how the promos "should look and sound," according to another document obtained by CNN.

"Talent should dress in jewel tones -- however they should not look political in their dress or attire," one of the documents says. "Avoid total red, blue and purples dresses and suits. Avoid totally red, blue and purple ties, the goal is to look apolitical, neutral, nonpartisan yet professional. Black or charcoal suits for men...females should wear yellow, gold, magenta, cyan, but avoid red, blue or purple."

At the end of the promo, viewers are encouraged to send in feedback "if you believe our coverage is unfair."

The instructions say that "corporate will monitor the comments and send replies to your audience on your behalf."

In other words, local stations are cut out of the interactions with viewers. Management will handle it instead.

Making Charcoal

thegrimsleeper says...

This is a great video and one of my favorite things about it is that his video description answers the very question I had immediately after watching it. I had never really wondered why people use charcoal instead of just the wood it's made from.

I haven't used toothpaste in over five years. Sometimes baking soda. Sometimes activated charcoal. Sometimes just salt. Sometimes just water. I mix it up.

Frozen Steaks vs. Thawed Steaks

EvilDeathBee says...

Yeah, charcoal grilling makes everything taste better. And the oven step seems like a bit of a faff to me (I want my steak now!), however, I really must give this method a go

We usually grill steaks (charcoal grill - Mr. NetRunner is Mr. Grillmaster, he rocks!). But I usually end up getting a 4-pack from Costco, then having 2, 2 go to the freezer.. And then I never remember to take the ones in the freezer out to thaw in the fridge in time.

The problem is: I have a teeny freezer atm, I really can't do the freezing in a sheet pan before packing it up. Also, we love the 'just grilling on the grill' and not putting anything in the oven. But I WILL try doing it this way, sounds very tempting! Would be great for those rainy days when you really, really wanted steak but it just keeps raining!

Filtering the water out of Coca Cola.

arekin says...

done this before, you can do it with any active charcoal filter (I used a brita). The sad thing is if you notice its still has a brown hint to it and it tastes horrible. The filter does not remove all but the water, it leaves the acid taste. it literally tastes like you are drinking a mild acid.

What Is Light? Young's Double Slit Experiment

Normally, the big hit with this experiment is that you put some charcoal dust on the viewfinder pad, and everyone looks up afterwards with a black ring around their eye. That's magical.

Please!??....An affordable potato vodkas' fine (Monopolva) - Tito's or Finlandia. for a step-up.

If you pour that cheap shit through a Britta charcoal filter about five passes it smooths it right out.

Hong Kong Shark Fin Rooftop

shang says...

I do a ton of shark fishing off Mexico beach in Panama City, FL. My aunt always wants me to save her the shark fins. I usually grill the shark on a nice charcoal grill, amazing steaks.

but my Aunt makes shark fin soup a lot, and it tastes very good as well, on a lucky week I can haul in about half a ton of sharks for local fishmongers and for myself and family.

course my business is just family ran selling to fishmongers and local seafood restaurants for shark steaks and fins for soup.

Periodic Videos drops red hot charcoal into liquid oxygen

"I was really quite worried about this experiment"
... so they used a much shorter stick than previous experiments and practically stood right on top of it.

(I assume they did this several times before they setup the cameras though)

Also, why does he have to create his own charcoal? Can't just buy a bag of Kingsford at the local grocers?
maybe the commercial stuff has other additives that would have created a different reaction?
