How To Sing Ave Maria With Your Head In A Tank

ghark says...

I just started to learn this song on the piano about a week ago, such an amazing peice, it was originally written for a play and had a different name, but with Ave Maria being the first words, I guess it kind of stuck. For listening purposes check out the the Schubert-Lizst version, mind-bogglingly difficult to play even for the best pianists (many parts have 3 bars to play at once), but exceedingly beautiful to listen to.

Fishing for bicycles in the Netherlands

ButterflyKisses says...

Wow that's crazy. This just goes to show that a majority of people could care less about polluting the environment they live in. Quite often I see someone throwing a wrapper out of their car. It used to be really bad in America in the 70s. In the 80s stiff penalties were enforced and the threat of a $1000 fine stopped most people from littering finally. I'm sure there's all kinds of crap in the lakes and streams though. I've gone diving into a lake only to find a vehicle at the bottom of it rusting away, polluting the lake every second that it sat down there.

I still don't understand why people would dump their bikes in the river though... Is there nowhere they can properly dispose of them? Or does it cost money to do that?

BTW... I always love hearing Royal Hunt's version of Ave Maria. Good sift.

Indeed you're correct that gregorian chant is monophonic, so, strictly speaking, this isn't gregorian chant. However, Biebl most certainly used gregorian chant as an inspiration for the piece. The first 30 seconds or so are gregorian chant, and so are the solos. Thanks for bringing music theory into this with the great comment.

beautiful

not sure about the 'gregorian chant' tag, though... this was a polyphonic performance - and if i'm remembering correctly, gregorian chant is/was monophonic

anyway, nice sift
