moonsammyThanks - I've suspected Asperger's as likely for some time, and that confirmed it to whatever degree a self-select internet-based test can do. Seems I fit that definition / set of traits moreso than ADHD. Yay?

It wasn't till I was married and raising kids that it even occurred to me to check. I was just the notoriously shy kid growing up who would as soon play beside his friends as with them. I took the pre-screening tests though and my score there landed my in not just the range to test further, but the almost certainly going to be on the spectrum.
I've looked more at Aspergers now since and in very, very many ways it looks much like just a more extreme form of the 'male' dominant mind. A greater interest in things than in people. In many ways it's just exactly as the video presenter alludes to. People are just different, and this is a classification of a particular kind of difference. Our differences make some things easier and others harder and such is life.

moonsammyHuh. At 38 I've never really seriously entertained the possibility that I might have ADHD, but this talk certainly gave me pause. Many of the behaviors she describes are something with which I identify, but I'm not certain whether that's because I actually share a set of peculiarities with her or because they are, much like a horoscope, things with which everyone identifies to some degree. If nothing else, I think I need to start looking into what actually defines whether someone has ADHD, and what to do with that knowledge if they do. Thanks for posting this notarobot!

shagen454Well, OK. I do love me some Chris Hedges, but god damn - the left is never going to win anything with tone like this. No one *wants* to listen to it. Sure, they should, but it's hard to be annihilated by the truth when it's spoken in a piercing frequency, lol.
I think that is what Sanders was trying to do - the political establishment understands this "Tweet" culture, of simple-minded ADHD, ritalin addicts who know nothing about politics, or the truth so you basically have to keep it short & sweet. I definitely don't believe Sanders would have made any better impact as an Independent (except for the fact that I would have voted for him), I agree - he didn't teach us much, but he kept it slightly angry (good tone though and tone is huge) and simple for mass consumption.
I feel like the only thing to save humanity (and the environment) is massive & sheer economic collapse to fucking ruin capitalism FOREVER, let's move to a forest and make a 100% sustainable living & future. We have the tech to do it now. And it needs to be done right now, like right this split second.

I can accept that they needed to cut now and then because she couldn't make it in one flawless and stylish looking run, but now it pans and cuts once a second... plus, why would you ever move the camera away from her hands to show that awful piano?

Anyway, there must be some sort of causality law in this universe that if your Mom is a schoolteacher, over-worked (due to giving a damn), with crap pay, plus everything else that comes with it make your Mom, like Lewis's and mine raise children who are sarcastic pessimistic frustrated bastards (and liberal as well, do I really need to explain why this is true) and laughing only because the irony of it all...
...Along with the other "fun-issues" I mentioned above, there are also the time honored classics, like: that Elementary & Middle-School teachers must babysit half the kids since their parents (and sometimes it's just the kids...) apparently never figured out to tell their kids, after the many failed parent-teacher conferences, that yelling in class, throwing punches at teachers students, bringing your favorite "x" to show everyone (usually an animal or a weapon), and the epidemic of simply just ignoring the "external" world while in/at a desk/seat...are all wrong.
Sure, some have ADHD and really DO have problems learning the way the majority of us do (same with autism and other issues)--but, if the school is even remotely trying they just might have a special needs class for these kids; or at least resources to help the issue (and to also clue the parents in to the problem if they have no idea it is occurring).
We really need a fresh start on the entirety of the education system; it literally needs a reboot. Especially as you see less and less students going to college every year. There are at least two major issues causing this... It would be a nice setup if we could turn the entire system from the ground up into an apprenticeship and internship type system, with earlier grades built to help you find what you are good at doing AND also what you can excel in and love doing at the same time.
Even extending into college years (and getting rid of all the filter and junk classes), actually give every student at least one ability to utilize. Use colleges and universities to train master's and doctorate (plus other specialized degrees and long-term goals)...
Sorry, I just wanted to rant about my ideological hope for education one day. Can you imagine how impossible this is to do right now... Oh, yeah, class size too should be 15 or lower...
