I've updated the Posting Guidelines to reflect that this kind of thing likely shouldn't be considered a dupe, as it is 1/6 the length of the original post and concentrates on one very specific bit. People could use this stipulation to post every 30-second chunk of the original video, but it's unlikely such posts would ever get published anyway.

While I'm sure you're right about this being a portion, have we not in the past decided that taking a smaller portion of an already posted video is still a dupe. Other wise, I can just be re-posting every video on the sift, but taking 30 seconds off the end of each one - still the same video and adds nothing to it.

Only if their entire weight is suspended by the water. If they're walking in the bottom (like here) it will add weight.

Having said that, I'd be pretty confident that it could take the negligible extra, even if it went above the max recommended occupancy.

Let's be extremely optimistic and figure that these things work in a 25 meter radius, with 100% kill rate to any mosquito inside that zone for 30 seconds+. That's plenty to put in or near a house and drastically reduce the mosquito population in (and a little bit around) that area. But just a short distance away, the mosquito population will be completely unaffected.

Animals that prey on mosquitoes will find a small dead zone and move on.

Lets say they worked extremely well, and we decided to cover an entire city with a grid of these things. Maybe New York (800 km^2). Would the local ecosystem be affected? Sure. Some species of birds, bats, etc. would move upstate -- but overall there would probably be way less impact on the ecosystem than simply having a gigantic city there in general.

It would probably be better to set them up covering small villages in area with high risk of malaria, in which case any affects on ecosystems would be very small and contained. But on the other hand, first world people like New Yorkers with high population density and more $$$ to burn might be plenty happy to chip in (tax dollars?) for these things if they never got any mosquito bites again. And that would probably help the economy of scale kick in and make it much cheaper to set them up in places that would really benefit...

I have only seen clips of this Milo guy and I can't watch more than abou 30 seconds. He really needs to be ignored and not brought on anywhere.

I agree with Bill on many things, but I think that it was a mistake to bring him on the show, much less engage with him.

What gets me about that, is I can only hold my breath for about 30 seconds, so that looks like witchcraft.

Pretty damn impressive for $1500. I'd say they blew on the first 30 seconds of CGI and then didn't pay their actors. ;-)

Around the 50 second mark to 1 minute mark, it looks like his steering got messed up, so he was probably stuck after that point, but at the 30 second point it becomes obvious that going forward isn't the right move.

Also, what is it lately that 90% of all videos no longer will go full screen on the Sift?
