British Intel Advisor, Obama Born In Kenya - Extended Cut

newtboy says...

Just a reminder to everyone that Bobknight33 is a birther…the racist movement to lie about Obama’s birthplace to claim he was not the REAL president.
Similar to the vote fraud fraud so they could deny Biden is the legitimate president.

Funny, coming from a group that has only won the popular vote for president once since 1988.

President Biden responses beautifully

What in the EVERLOVING FUCK are you lying about?

Yes, he fucked up hugely, massively cheated an election by harvesting and filling out reportedly thousands of ballots, stolen from the elderly, for himself (his campaign did with his knowledge) and voting for other Republican candidates if the voters hadn’t, then barely won the election anyway.

I’m absolutely certain you supported him, supported him staying in office, and would have supported him again had he chosen to run again, despite the undeniable election fraud campaign he ran and the fraudulent votes he “won” with.

I’m positive you didn’t call for the removal of the others not involved in the scheme but who won only thanks to the fraudulent votes Harris’ vote fraud campaign had cast for them, did you? That’s because you really don’t care one whit about election fraud, you only care about schemes to deny legitimate voters their right to vote if you believe they might vote Democrat.
That’s because you know Republicans have only won the popular vote for president once since 1988, so honest elections don’t work for your ilk.

He remained in office despite the blatant fraud his campaign perpetrated with his full knowledge, for over 600 days, and was still allowed to run in the special election they finally held over 600 days later because of HIS election frauds. He dropped out on his own for “Health reasons”.

He never was charged despite his own son, a judge, testifying that he had knowledge that his campaign was committing election fraud well before they were caught because the son had personally told him, and despite the fact that he did absolutely nothing to stop or report it.

HE WAS NOT PUNISHED IN ANY FUCKING WAY YOU BOLD FACED LIAR!

Why do you tell these stupid lies when you know I will call you out on them, Bob? Self hate? Are you a closet masochist? Why? You KNOW I’m going to look into anything you tell me and call it out when it can be proven to be a lie. I’ve lost count how many times we’ve gone to this rodeo. You end up trampled with shit on your face every time. Why?!

Cassowary attacks

Cassowaries have a reputation in folklore for being dangerous to people and domestic animals. During World War II American and Australian troops stationed in New Guinea were warned to steer clear of them. In his book Living Birds of the World from 1958, ornithologist Ernest Thomas Gilliard wrote:

The inner or second of the three toes is fitted with a long, straight, murderous nail which can sever an arm or eviscerate an abdomen with ease. There are many records of natives being killed by this bird.

This assessment of the danger posed by cassowaries has been repeated in print by authors including Gregory S. Paul (1988) and Jared Diamond (1997). A 2003 historical study of 221 cassowary attacks showed that 150 had been against humans. 75% of these had been from cassowaries that had been fed by people. 71% of the time the bird had chased or charged the victim. 15% of the time they kicked. Of the attacks, 73% involved the birds expecting or snatching food, 5% involved defending natural food sources, 15% involved defending themselves from attack, and 7% involved defending their chicks or eggs. The 150 attacks included only one human death.

The one documented human death was caused by a cassowary on 6 April 1926. 16-year-old Phillip McClean and his brother, aged 13, came across a cassowary on their property and decided to try to kill it by striking it with clubs. The bird kicked the younger boy, who fell and ran away as his older brother struck the bird. The older McClean then tripped and fell to the ground. While he was on the ground the cassowary kicked him in the neck, opening a 1.25 cm (0.49 in) wound which may have severed his jugular vein. The boy died of his injuries shortly afterwards.

Just how smart is Donald Trump?

notarobot says...

@moonsammy:

Have a look at this interview from 1980. Pay attention to the patterns of his speech. Notice how they are different than the example used in the Nerdwriter analysis I posted above.

http://www.msnbc.com/documentaries/watch/today-show-1980-with-donald-trump-589527619719

At a later interview (1988?) you can hear that the patterns in his speech are a bit closer to the Nerdwriter. You can hear how he occasionally repeats words. He has had more practice with interviews here than in 1980 and it shows. How he crafts his speech is not a product of an untrained mind--it is intentional.

The way he dodges the "are you smarter than other people?" question is also interesting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmClYIQqEn8

Again, I'm not arguing that he's a genius. Just that assumptions of his intellect based on the choice to use simple language have been mistaken. His choice to use simple language is a big part of what gave him broad appeal among voters for whom higher education was out of reach. It may have won him the presidency.

I don't like him, but he isn't stupid.

When Magma Meets Water

Mordhaus says...

Because phreatic eruptions can be initiated accidentally by drilling or failure of a casing in a geothermal well (Bixley and Browne, 1988), these events must be considered potential hazards during the drilling and production processes.

Volcanology and Geothermal Energy

Grant Heiken

It's not a guaranteed problem. But if proper precautions are not taken, then it could happen.

drradon said:

I'm sorry, this is silly science. Maybe I'm jaded, but if you want to study the reaction of lava going into water, this is happening every day (now) at Kilauea. But the ending piece of alarmism over phreatomagmatic explosions being triggered by water injected into magma is nonsense - researchers and private sector drillers have drilled into magma in Hawaii and in Iceland with no adverse affect at the surface.

Curt Smith of Tears for Fears and Ted Yoder

ulysses1904 says...

Fun fact about this song and my hero Joe Strummer, from Songfacts.com -

Singer Joe Strummer told an interesting story to Musician magazine in 1988 about how he proved that popular 1980s group Tears for Fears stole a line from "Charlie Don't Surf" for the title of their hit "Everybody Wants To Rule The World." He was apparently in a restaurant and saw Roland Orzabal, lead songwriter for Tears for Fears, and told him that "you owe me a fiver," explaining that the name of their hit song was an exact lift of the first line of the middle eight in "Charlie Don't Surf." According to Strummer, Orzabal simply reached into his pocket and gave him a five pound note, effectively admitting that this had been the case.

(for the record it was from the first verse, not the middle eight as there is no middle eight in "Charlie Don't Surf")

Real Time with Bill Maher: Frank Luntz 7/15/16

Babymech says...

I don't think we can pretend that either of them was trying 100% to engage in serious discussion. Nobody who answers a question with "my whole life has been spent out with the American people, while you're telling jokes" is committed to serious debate, unless the topic of the debate is which countries Frank has lived in.

Still, Luntz was right on one of the few facts they disagreed on - "Reagan's last two Gallup job approval ratings before he left office were 57% in mid-November and 63% in December 1988.

The highest job approval rating of the Reagan administration was 68% -- reached twice, in May 1981 and as previously indicated, in May 1986. As noted, the low point was 35% in January 1983."

An interracial kiss nearly sank Star Trek

poolcleaner says...

Ack, I want to hear more! One of those videos that you look at and go, cool it's an entire 5 minutes of Trekkie AND civil rights goodness -- then it's over in a blink. Should have been 15 minutes. Damn.

We really need to hear more about Tack-eh's "liberal" conversations with Roddenberry... My wife is a TNG fanatic (and Asian), so this might be the selling point I've been looking for to get her to watch the OG with me, which she doesn't consider serious enough scifi.

Also, on the subject of the "South" -- my family is from Florida/SC and I remember my mom freaking out because she worked in a building (circa 1988) with a colored's only bathroom. She had no idea that there were still relics of segregation in public places. I don't know how it survived THAT long, but when you live an hour away from the nearest grocery store, yet the manatee "preserve" (they didn't look very preserved, the majority of them covered from head to tail in propeller scars...) is less than five minutes away, you're bound to find things that escaped the flow of time. Trailers on blocks of cement, just resting on top of the white sand in a hurricane fuckland... How smart my ancestors were.
