Media has a responsibility not to traffic in fear!

Wow. Never thought I'd hear the same argument coming from Naomi Wolf and Glenn Beck.

I didn't see Naomi Wolf in this video. I'm curious, where does Wolf make these arguments?

She's not in this video, but right before the election she was harping on about the impending American fascism, how she was convinced the Republicans were going to rig the election, use the American military to quell the uprising on American soil, impose martial law. She drew a direct comparison to October 1, 2008 in America to February, 1933 in Germany. Basically, she was trafficking in fear; she certainly had me afraid.

The Persuaders! Theme (Tony Curtis & Roger Moore)

Thanks for the promote!

Digging more infro from WikiPedia:
'John Barry, OBE (born John Barry Prendergast on 3 November 1933 in York, England) is a renowned Golden Globe and five-time Academy Award-winning English film score composer. He is best known for composing 11 James Bond movies and was hugely influential on the 007 series' distinctive style.

One of Barry's most well known compositions is the theme for the 1971 TV series The Persuaders!, also known as "The Unlucky Heroes", in which Tony Curtis and Roger Moore were paired as rich playboys solving crimes. The score for the series was composed by Ken Thorne. The theme went on to be a hit single in some European Countries and has been re-released on collections of 1970s disco hits.'

Shopping for THE Best Beethoven "Ode To Joy" Recording (Bravo Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan is still considered to be one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century, and you can buy his MP3 of Symphony #9 at Amazon.com for $8.99. Or if you feel like splurging, you can buy all nine Beethoven symphonies (conducted by Karajan) for $22.97.

I don't recommend iTunes because of the goddamn DRM they still use. All of Amazon.com's MP3 dowloads are DRM-free.

One more thing: Karajan was a member of the Nazi party from 1933 to 1939. I don't know how important that is to you in regards to this purchase, but many Jewish musicians refused to play for him, so I think it's only fair that you know.

Christopher Hitchens Slams Sarah Palin On Her Beliefs

jwray says...

>> ^quantumushroom:
Like that rude, miserable alcoholic they trot out, liberalism is going nowhere and has no purpose anymore except to tear down the very institutions that make America great.
Even as a flawed human institution, religion has been a greater force for good than any government program has been or ever will be. Even as non-believers, if you don't see this even from a utilitarian viewpoint, you're not looking. (And if you think government research is ever going to surpass private enterprise research: HA).
Palin's personal beliefs, however ludicrous, will not have a direct impact on any legislation whatsoever. For now, we've got a commie-run Congress, and they control the money. You've got a hell of a lot more to worry about with Fraudbama attempting to recreate the same failed socialism of the 1920s and 1960s than Palinosaurs.
When I encounter diehard socialists/liberals of any age, I know they've never been seriously exposed to conservative ideas and principles except in sneering soundbites provided by the opposition.
Mayhap the prejudices presented to you of what you should oppose and what you should favor are half-complete.

What "failed socialist policies of the 1920's and 1960's" are you imagining?
FDR was inaugurated in 1933. The New Deal started long after the Great Depression began, and it helped reduce unemployment from 25% to less than 10% through federal spending on public infrastructure. It was based on Keynesian theories of economics. The US never had full socialism, but we ought to emulate France, Canada, Sweden, and Norway.

Paulson Blames Congress For Thinking He Rejected Oversight

rougy says...

>> ^demosthenes:
I'm sorry, but I have to speak up.
It seems like all the sifters here just love throwing brickbats at Washington politicians. That's fine if the arguments raised are valid, but Hank Paulson is doing a god awesome job of fixing and resolving the biggest financial crisis facing America since the Depression.

Paulson is one of the reasons we're in this mess to begin with.

...the (Paulson) committee warned that U.S. regulations were scaring away capital. New stock issues were increasingly being listed on European or Asian exchanges. Foreign companies were raising capital via private offerings instead of public exchanges, to avoid the disclosure requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and the liability provisions of the 1933 and '34 Securities Exchange Acts. The risk of class-action lawsuits and high director insurance rates were frightening away foreign capital, too. The solution? Dismantle much of what's left of New Deal financial regulations and some of Sarbanes-Oxley.

A Comparison of Kongs

Tasmanian Devil's gonna getcha, Dag!

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

They sound feroicious- but they are so small- that I can't feel too intimidated by them. One swift kick ...

I do remember reading that if they manage to bring back the Thylacine from those pickled fetuses- a Tasmanian Devil might be the placental host mother.
