Moore, Sir Roger Moore

eric3579 says...

Roger Moore was always my James Bond. I was never interested in seeing Bond movies when he stopped being 007. Live and Let Die was the first Bond movie i saw in the theater, but The Spy Who Loved Me was my all time favorite.

That's a fan theory that explains why James Bond isn't the same guy all the time (Connery, Brosnan, Moore etc.) and kept spying around from the late 60's until now. The idea is that 'James Bond' is a cover identity used by various Agents of MI-6. This would allow for a black Bond but it isn't canon at all. That's why the Craig Bonds rebooted the franchise to allow the reuse of characters (Blofeld) and storylines (Vesper Lind vs. Tracy Bond).
007 is James Bond. The Producers are very protective in regards to this. However, the other 00-agents are pretty much non-existant in the franchise. They showed up in 'From Russia With Love' in a short meeting scene (sans dialogue), 009 died in the first 5 minutes of Octopussy (sans dialogue). The notable exception is Alec Trevelyan played by Sean Bean (I think he was 006), the villian from 'GoldenEye'. You could ague that Javier Bradem's Silva from 'Skyfall' must've been a 00-Agent but it is AFAIK not confirmed. Oh, and another 00-Agent was mentioned in 'Spectre'.
The reason Bond was made a scott was because Fleming like Connery's portrayal so much even though he was against casting him in the beginning. Bond's heritage is a minor plot point (more of a trivia item actually) in 'OHMSS' and a major plot point in 'Skyfall' (the name of Bond's family home).
As I said, gender-swapping Bond is much easier.

Most movie goers probably don't even know he's from an old Scottish family, actually, I didn't even know that until just now. (Black Scotsmen should never be taken lightly however.)
As I understand it, 007 is a designation and could be assigned to anyone. Besides, if we went with your idea, which isn't necessarily a bad one, you just know someone would still complain that it implied that a black man isn't good enough to be 007. Chow Yun Fat as King Arthur? Can we get the Green Destiny to stand in for Excalibur?

Oh, and black James Bond makes no freaking sense. He's a guy from a very old scottish family. How much awkward retconning are you willing to do for that? Jane Bond makes more sense than this.
Why can't we have a kickass 005 for a change? There are other agents working for MI-6 too. Maybe some awesome guy from London.
It's like Chow Yun Fat as King Arthur or Chewitel Ejiofor as Frodo Baggins.

Epic Rap Battles of History: James Bond vs Austin Powers

I defer to your opinion as i'm only assessing, who bond is, from my childhood viewing of 007 films. Not at all from Flemings books which ive never read.

Also my favorite "Bond' film may be 1967 Casino Royale. That film was a hoot Although nothing like your typical Bond film. http://videosift.com/video/Best-Bond-film-ever-1967-Casino-Royale-trailer
I did however see 'The spy who loved me' about ten times, when it came out.

Roger Moore? Controversial!

Personally, I think Dalton or Craig are closest to Flemings Bond, but Connery's movies were the best.

Craig got off to an excellent start with Casino Royale, but the others have been fairly average.

The best Bond movies ever, though, are the first three Bourne movies

Bill Maher Discusses Boston Bombing and Islam

gorillaman says...

Tremendous amount of ignorance in here; not the faggoty liberal 'being a meanie' ignorance, but the dictionary definition 'you don't know what the fuck you're talking about' ignorance.

There's very little room for multiple interpretations of Islam. The Qur'an was written by a single (insane) author; with clear instructions on how to interpret it - literally; and how to resolve any inconsistencies within the text - the chronologically later passage supercedes the earlier.

The various Islamic sects differ over the authenticity of the Hadith, accounts of Momo's opinions and behaviour, which they are expected to emulate. None of them dispute the authority or the text of the Qur'an, which they imagine to be the infallible word of god.

There are peaceful, conciliatory passages in the Qur'an; which generally date from early in Muhammad's career, when he wasn't so secure in his position that he could afford to be a total cunt to non-believers. There are violent, xenophobic passages in the Qur'an; which generally date from later in Muhammad's career, when his success as a warlord left him far better placed to be a total cunt to non-believers. The chronologically later passages supercede the earlier.

The favorite example is At-Tawbah 5, the 'Verse of the Sword'; from the chronologically penultimate surah of the Qur'an it scrubs out any earlier peaceful passages by commanding that Muslims:

"fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war)"

THIS IS WHAT ALL MUSLIMS BELIEVE

There's a peculiar general tendency to conflate the violent historical practice of other religions, like Christianity, with the actual scriptural commandment to violence of Islam. These are not equivalent. In any case the big M positioned Islam as a continuation and successor of Christianity and Judaism, admitting the validity of their prophets and texts, so it has to inherit their crimes as well.

Ultimately, all the religious are criminals. In abandoning reason and responsibility for their own actions, in turning over their volition to the dictates of invisible spirits, they have disposed of ethics and their own humanity.

Is that Paddington station? I can't believe it's that quiet during the day. That's the main reason why it looks completely fake.

I saw a 007 booth at Victoria the other day and there was no one running around doing stunts - there is no way you could run...
