Twitter Much?

So I just discovered this weird little service called Twitter. Do any of you use this thing?

For the uninformed, it's basically a quite simple thing where you can send updates (via website or cellphone text message) of up to 140 characters describing what you're doing right now. Then anyone who is "following" you (which sounds kind of creepy and stalkerish) can be informed of your update.

I just signed up last night and it seems pretty useless to me. Anyone else able to make any use of the uselessness?

760 out.

A local weekly newspaper started following me shortly after I signed up.

I started Twittering when a group of us from BlogCatalog decided we would follow each other. It's useful when people you follow post worthwhile links, i.e., blog posts, photos, videos, etc. Of course "useful" is relative. It is possible to have back and forth responses with the folks you follow.

Sometimes a person is having some kind of technical problem. Others will make suggestions via Twitter. That's another possible use.

Here's a link to a discussion of the apps that can be used to look at Twitter: http://www.blogcatalog.com/group/twitter/discuss/entry/twitter-apps

There's already of Black list of users that SPAM Twitter: http://twitterblacklist.com/

I also Plurk: http://www.plurk.com/user/dotartdude

Plurk is set up for threads. You build Karma by adding folks and posting regularly.

I Pownce too: http://pownce.com/dotartdude/

Here are some Twits I follow:

A couple of pointers on Plurk:

• The higher your karma points, the fancier the emoticons
• If you feel SPAMMED by someone, you press the MUTE button
• You lose karma points when people do not accept friend requests and when you don't post often
• The site is still evolving and new features are being added

Well I guess folks can print what's on the page.

In the meantime there is an e-mail address to send to about updates.

Otherwise folks should notice if the number of folks someone follows is in the thousands and the follow backs in the hundreds, then that Twit would probably be blacklisted.
