This advice may give you some peace of mind and pocketbook-hope lies in the Country you live in, there's the infrastructure and medical facilities to give you the care you need, and if you are unable to pay, you will be treated-county hospitals will bill you, and you simply pay them regularly, what you are able, every month like clockwork-Med bills in collection, etc- unpaid, affect your credit less than some credit card charge-offs, utilities unpaid, etc-you pay the county $10 a month, and they can't report you to a credit agency for non-payment....they won't send the enforcers to put you in the debtor's prison, because the whole place is a type of debtor's prison anyhow, the walls of your apt. long since replaced the bars and walls.....

I keep ins. for my kids because I have to, none for myself, because I can't afford it, nay won't afford it-the day I want to get a gauge on my body, by availing myself of a battery of tests from some Hosp., is the day I buy a personal policy, w/ all the bells and whistles, go get all the tests I want in the course of a month, then, dump it-

Eat right, stay active, keeping in mind that you are not Superman (wait, he's a fag) not an X-man, because those youthful injuries translate into chronic pain as you age, and you want to be pain-free as long as you are able......and rest easy in the fact that when Obama is elected, he will turn our health care system into something even illegal aliens can climb up and suck on that teat, which should be reserved for citizens, until you are taxed into oblivion to pay for the dilution of our language and culture, the more porous our borders become.....Viva La Amerimexicanada.....

Oh the horrible visions of injury I conjure up to explain those embedded green lines!

(I hope you feel better, and I hope you can work something out about your bill. I know nothing and am useless except for pointless quips. forgive me.)

OMFG. I'm hoping there's no serious damage physical damage to you. That picture looks unbelievably painful. (It's an image that should be kept in mind as the "after" by folks who enjoy eia vids of accidents such as this.)

Sorry, no help in your quest for answers, but I hope it all works out for you. Choggie's advice sounds worth following up on. (And choggie has kids?!)

Oh GOD it's horrible! And the scars look pretty bad too...
I keed, I keed. I once did about the same thing, landed on the side though and boy did it hurt.
Like oxdottir I can only contribute with quips and fingerpointing. But get well, eh? And good luck on robbing the bank to pay that bill.

Often times the threat of a lawsuit can cause the hospital to enter a arbitration rather then take the lawsuit. It might depend on wither or not they can justify the bill. I'm no lawyer but talking with one may be able to help.

Otherwise, I feel for ya, being without insurance really bites.

First, I'm sorry this happened. I hope you are not in too much pain.

CT scans simply don't cost that much. I've had one. Because of a bad house fire and some bad smoke inhalation, I wound up in the hospital here. My ENTIRE bill including a CT of my noggin and tons of other tests was like $2,000. The ambulance trip cost almost as much as the rest of the visit. But for the future, get insurance. The ENTIRE accident would be covered in full if you have decent insurance. In addition, you're lucky you weren't in a room under medical watch for a week, that'd be tens of thousands of dollars. Also consider if you had needed reconstructive surgery, you'd need near $100,000 for that. BTW, if you did ride the ambulance, as great as that is for service, it's about $1,300. =/

I also recommend you call another hospital and get a price for the same tests you got. That might give your argument some more weight. Hospitals hate competing. Get ahead of them and don't let them push you around. They have FAR more options available to you than they say. I've known people who had their entire bill annulled due to their inability to pay it in full. Show an initiative to solve the problem and square the bill, but an inability to do so reasonably. They often fold to that. Of course, if you have the ability to pay for it, you'll have to, but don't overpay for tests.

P.S. Don't forget I'm not an MD. unless you consider my avatar to be a valid doctor, than I might be on weekends.

Also as others said, if they know you have no insurance, you'll find that the bill will DIVE. heh They will worry that they will not get paid anything and will just take a loss, so the bill will be reduced the minute they know they are billing an individual and not an insurance company.

12K for a CT? Pound for pound, I could rent a backhoe for the day for $200 There is no technology in that thing that's worth that kind of money. Doc is right, I think you're getting gouged.

Hope you recover quickly.
