this is such a fantastic movie and if you have never seen this incredibly profound and moving film yet i suggest that you do..right now.
the basic premise is that a new technology has been created in which memories can be erased.that you can target specific memories that may be causing pain and heart break so that you no longer will experience that most hurtful of emotions...the broken heart.
director michael gondry puts the question to us all:
if you could take away all that pain by erasing the memories that are the cause of emotional anguish in the form of a broken heart.
would you really do it?
the whole scenario sounds simple enough.
just erase that person and the relationship from your memory.
gondry explores with a deftness and a deep understanding of human nature that in order to release ourselves of the very real pain of heart break,we also have to give up the parts of us that reveled in the discovery and connection to another human being.
and that maybe the price of a clean slate may be too high.
for it is those very connections and loss of those connections that helps define who we are.
