A couple of friends of mine did this on a motorcycle once. Some 10' boards on the passengers lap for a 5 mile ride home.

I used to work at a lumber yard. I could write pages of hideous things I've seen people do. Never seen this one, though. But, a guy once used twine to cradle a 22' LVL underneath his truck. Nobody saw him doing it until he drove away...I can imagine him trying to stop and having it fly out...soooooo stupid.

I got a piece of 8 x 4 lattice into my car once by bending it in the front and back. I had to look THROUGH the lattice while I was driving home since I had to run it through the center of my car and bend it across the front windshield to fit
