That's basically the concept behind "Spin Alley" where repubs and dems from different campaigns get together and claim that their guy won the debate that just happened. It's called Spin Alley for a reason and everyone knows that they're lying out their ass. But the fact is the majority of them probably believe that their guy is also better than the other guy...and they're just doing everything they can to make sure their guy wins.
Controlling people through competition and making sure all elections are just large advertising campaigns where nobody actually knows where the candidates stand on the issues is the greatest success of the corporations that could've been imagined. Well done for them.
