Police detective John Hobbes (Denzel Washington) comes face to face with his adversary, the body-hopping demon Azazel, who has possessed another police officer and come to taunt Hobbes in his own workplace. The lyric "Time is on my side" is first spoken to Hobbes by a serial killer (also possessed by Azazel) arrested by Hobbes as the killer is being executed at the beginning of the film.
