The last prisoner on Brazil's Big Island - BBC News

In 1958 Julio de Almeida arrived on the island as a 27 year old sentenced to a lengthy period of incarceration in the top security Cândido Mendes prison. When the facility closed in 1994 he was given a conditional release to remain on the island, a sentence which finally ends this year.
