Also why would monkeys be much of an expert? Just from what we feed them in zoos? Do they actually eat a lot of bananas in the wild?

I've always peeled from the stem, never even thought to do it any other way. Watching this video in front of someone from a different country, it appears this is a cultural thing as they have never thought of peeling any other way than the way in this video. Kind of interesting.

From the stem is largely a North-American thing, most of the world uses the other end....

Bite it? Stick your finger into it? What? What's so hard about just pulling back on it like a handle? It snaps the skin and peels back.

I think doing it the second way looks easier and neater, but man, I think he's missing a few brain cells if he actually found it hard to do it the other way.

You're very lucky if you never have trouble opening a banana, spoco2. If the banana isn't perfectly ripe, the top doesn't always snap open. I sometimes squish the whole top eigth trying to wrestle with the damn things. There are times when I eat a banana a day, and I can't wait to try this technique on the organic ones I buy.

Bananas were created by humans through selective breeding and chance. The wild variety sucks.

I never have trouble with bananas unless they're rock hard and really should be allowed to ripen. However this does make it a tad easier.

Reminds me of the people shown in black and white at the beginning of infomercials who can't seem to accomplish even the simplest of tasks without injuring themselves.

I'll definitely give this a try, but I can't say I ever found myself cursing a banana for not peeling easily. And who knows, maybe I'll switch. I didn't learn about the Ian knot for shoelaces until I was 20, and that wasn't too difficult to implement.

Why go to the effort of wearing monkey print underwear and not just put on pants for your video to the world?

It's definitely true that it's easier to open bananas from the bottom, but it does leave that little nipple stuck to the end of the banana which you then have to manually pull off.

I prefer making a small cut on the pull-tab end, either with my thumb-nail or a knife, and peeling from there. Then the nipple-thing stays in the peel.
