Tesla Fast Battery Pack Swap

Tesla has announced they will be rolling out modifications to select Tesla Super Charge stations that will allow owners to swap the battery packs in their Tesla Model S (and I'd guess the upcoming Model X and BlueStar whatever model letter that is given) in 90 seconds rather than wait for the battery to charge (20-40 minutes for a supercharge, 20 minutes to charge a half depleted battery pack). This will cost about $60-$80 per swap depending on the charge level of the old battery. Or the owner can still chose to use the fast charger for free, or use their own charger at their home for the price of electricity.

The technology is similar to what Better Place was trying to do with battery swaps rather than charges.

Tesla founder Elon Musk (also behind SpaceX and PayPal) claims they can do two battery swaps in the time it takes to fill an empty tank of gas.
