Taiko Drumming - Matsukawa Kyougaku Taiko Drummers

The opening part of this performance is a little slow. Stick with it.
This is a performance of the Matsukawa Kyougaku Taiko drummers in Denver Colorado in 2004. I was lucky to be a volunteer helping the drummers at this event.

These drummers are ordinary people: housewives, government workers, social workers, business owners...all from Matsukawa village in Nagano Japan. But when they drum the power of their performance is amazing and you can't get a real sense of it from video. The power of their drumming does not come from stage lighting or effects but from an intense focus and the sheer will of the drummers.
