TSA: Makes 4yo boy remove his leg braces, and insist he walk

Oh... At least there was an apology...
radxsays...

The standard procedure of taking the boy to a private screening area is scandalous as it is. Anything beyond a trip through the metal detector is too much.

If you're afraid of little Timmy, you seriously need to have your mental status checked.

Ryjkyjsays...

Sure, now the terrorists are just going to dress up as little boys and hide the bombs in their leg braces. I hope this kid and his family are happy they exposed me to greater danger.

What gets me is they keep talking about all the training the TSA staff get, yet all these videos we're seeing make it look as though they drag random people in off the street, slap a uniform on them and tell them to behave in any damn way they please!

On second thought randomly selected people would have more common sense.

Tinglessays...

Non-US citizen here.

Used to travel in and out of the US a lot in my youth. I have no intention of doing so again via Air until the United States gets its shit sorted out. The country is absolutely fucked; they're just letting this kind of garbage happen.

Someone stand up and do something. Easier said than done? Well christ how many more freedoms, in the most free country in the world, are you going to give up before this stops?

What are the qualifications to become a TSA officer?

* Have reached his/her 18th birthday at the time of application submission;

* Be proficient in English (e.g., reading, writing,
speaking, and listening);

* Have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent; OR

* Have at least one year of full-time work experience in security
work, aviation screener work, or X-ray technician work.

That's it.

Frankly, if I was that kid's dad I think I would have completely lost it. I suppose that wanting to get your kid to their first trip to Disneyland would be some motivation to keep it under control, but I think my anger would have been strong enough to limit rational thoughts like that. Fuck the TSA.

Screen all swarthy Middle Easterners ages 16-50 and women wearing burqas (aka MUSLIMS) in separate lines. Celebrate diversity with Israeli airport security standards.

Until then, enjoy the poisoned fruits of political correctness.

Doesn't anyone else besides me find this funny? Come on who among us hasn't laughed at a cripple...cast the first stone! *ducks*

EDIT: Congrats to the moron who didn't get the joke. In explanation the joke was nobody human laughs at crippled toddlers so I was ducking to avoid all the stones cast in my direction. Get it yet?

Suggestions? I think that if the protests and sit-ins of the sixties taught us anything as a nation, it's that the government doesn't give a damn about massive protests. Because all the protestors grow up, move to the suburbs and get corporate jobs. Sad as it is to say, in this day and age I think getting this shit on the news where it's disseminated to people who aren't at their keyboards 24-7 is a reasonable start.

And as deeply disturbing as it is to say it, this is why the Tea Party exists in the US. They want smaller Federal government, because the government can't possibly oversee all the things it needs to. So there's your example of people standing up and doing something, even if they're 99% abhorrent.

Not sure where that leaves those of us who don't care for the Tea Party but are creeped out that our government delegates its job to 18-year-old high school grads and manager-types who think it's okay to 1) detain a woman for an hour to punish her for asking for special screening of her breast milk, 2) separate children from their parents to frisk them, 3) trick news reports about the opt-out protests by simply not using the machines, 4) et cetera, et cetera... I guess that's why we're all online forwarding and commenting on videos like this.

Aww, thank you.

oh wow. i made this prediction in a comment last week, about the TSA being ignorant and insensitive to people with assistive and medical devices. and look, it's happened already. i think if that kid was my nephew or one of my clients, my reaction would be heinously irrational.

I take no pleasure in the fact innocents have to be searched, but if you're going to piss off anyone, how about the demographic and "religion" responsible for terrorist acts 99.99% of the time? Maybe some of these fictional "moderate" Muslims might actually stop and ponder why they let jihadist vermin represent their religion.

BTW, now that you've "seen the light" about the stupidity and low qualifications of a large swath of TSAers, are you ready for the same gorogs being hired as Government Medical Techs? Same efficiency, same grace. It's only a matter of time.

>> ^Ryjkyj:

Either way you look at it QM, they've never found ONE bomb. Not one. Ever.

For "Terroristic Acts" see War in Iraq, War in Afganistan, War on Terror, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Gulf War Sanctions, Invasion of Haiti, Invasion of Grenada, Funding Militias in Nicaragua who attack soft targets.

See where I'm going here...to much of the world we are the terrorists.

Not to knit-pick but, those are just the qualifications to get hired, has nothing to do with the training. And no, I'm not defending TSA, just trying to keep you on track.

I don't remember that scene from Forrest Gump. perhaps they've already done a remake?

also, FEAR FEAR FEAR, FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR.
I fear the TSA more than I fear "terrorists".

right on bud!
because THAT is what this is all about.not fearing the muslims (except if you are QM..he pisses himself at the thought) but rather FEAR the power and authority of your government.
sit down,
shut up,
and do what you are fucking TOLD to do.
and never..NEVER question authority!
because if you do they have a whole arsenal to make you wish you didnt.

Esoogsays...

We traveled over Thanksgiving week. Flew from ATL to FLL and back Sunday to Sunday, and one thing I noticed is that the security lines, for us at least, moved very fast! We got through security on both ends in less than 5 minutes. I even got to go through one of the new body scanners. In the back of my mind, it felt a little odd...but I got over it in seconds.

About the TSA employees...I dont want to generalize, but they do not appear to be the brightest bunch. Seems to me like they've been beaten down with so many rules and regulations, that they've forgotten discretion and common sense. Lack of discretion I can live with, common sense, come on. You have to take every situation as it comes to you and adjust as needed. Amazing that stories like this one pop up.
