rottenseedwater vapor is hardly a toxic product of the chemical reaction, however the Sulfur Dioxide is fairly dangerous.

ponceleonSuper beard scientist does science like a boss; he don't need no stinking gloves/hood!
siftbotTags for this video have been changed from 'sulphuric acid, sugar, dehydrating, carbon, charcoal, energy, water vapor' to 'sulphuric acid, sulfuric, sugar, dehydrating, carbon, charcoal, energy, water vapor' - edited by calvados
articianUpvote for bitchin mustache.
solecistbeard man so awkward
MarineGunrockI am SO bringing some sugar to work tomorrow.
srdJean-Pütz!
WaterDwellerOur science teacher in junior high showed this to our class. Even picked up the charcoal with his hands (no gloves) afterwards. So I suppose it isn't THAT dangerous. (Either that, or he was weird in the head).
AlmanildoYeah, that is an awesome experiment. I talked my chemistry teacher into doing it for the class after a suggestion by my brother Ornthoron.
messengerThe best part of this experiment is how often the carbon looks like a giant phallus rising out of the beaker.
astr0says...Nuke it from orbit!

I speak from personal experience when I say say that the best chemistry teachers are at least a little weird in the head

each sees their own problem in it
spoco2That is awesome... I want to do this one with the kids (we love doing little science experiments)... this one they may have to be hands off on though, acid plus kids 8yrs and under don't mix.
notarobotIf the movies have taught me anything it's that sulphuric acid is stuff you don't want to mess with.
