"What you’re about to watch is a pitch for a wild experiment: In 1969 television producer Joan Ganz Cooney took a crazy chance and came up with a show that would change history. Forty years later Sesame Street has educated two generations and reached every corner of the globe.

The show was going to cost several million dollars to make, and the US Office of Education told Joan Ganz Cooney that there was no money for the show. But thanks to some initial research funding the first segments for the show were shot. Soon the Ford Foundation and the newly established Corporation for Public Broadcasting joined in to raise the eight million in funding that was required..."
