SNL: Jesus to Tebow - "Take it down a notch"

Jesus explains his role in Broncos success.
longdesays...

Remembering my hardcore christian days, I don't think I would have found this offensive (I don't remember going apeshit over the movie 'Oh, God'.

What probably would have bothered me is the portrayal of Jesus as a WASP.

Offensive to Christians, but who cares about them, right?

Pretty much. It's perfectly fine to be proud of your idendity if you're a Muslim, or a Jew, African-American, Hispanic, Atheist, or whatever. But when a Christian is open about their identity then they must be stopped at all costs, mocked, and told to keep it to themselves. The hypocrisy of society towards Christianity never ceases to amaze me with its breathtaking lack of self-awareness. Even worse are the retards who justify it with such idiotic mental diarrhea statements as, "Hey - it's OK because they're the 'majority'.

Do this skit about Muslims with Mohommed and you'd have suicide bombers blowing up the studio in a week. And the SNL staff would be apologizing for hurting the bombers with studio shrapnel. And the rest of our PC enslaved society would apologize for having offended them in the first place.

But let ONE Christian so much as say, "Your skit is offensive to me" and the same people would jump down every Christian's throat for being a jerk, using thier faith as a club to suppress free speech, and for just plain being a dirtbag with no sense of humor. Ah - hypocrisy - thy name is prejudice against Christians.

I'm a Christian who's capable of figuring out that the person above isn't actually Christ.

I'm also a Christian who detests the persecution/victimization complex right-wing Xtians have going. I wish they'd shove their drama queen antics up their puckered tuchus and stfu; we are the majority religion with the entirety of western civilization modeled after our creed, so 'tone it down a notch', as the above Jesus said.

MycroftHomlzsays...

There is something very identifiable about someone whose determined work ethic, will power, and self belief elevates their talent to greatness.

If I have been successful, it is for those same reasons and not because I was smarter than anyone else.

Tebow showed flashes of brilliance against the Pats. It could have been easily 20-6 at the half, if John Fox had rolled a hard 6 on 4th and 1 in the red zone. Furthermore, if Dawkins had been managing the defense, I think the Broncos could have held Brady in check in the second half. There were just to many mistakes on special teams, like the two muffed punts that were "gimme" 14 points for the Pats.

Take away those plays, and the score is 23-27. Then it is a much different game with 2 minutes left.

And I don't think this is in anyway offensive to christians. Then again, I am not christian.

Drachen_Jagersays...

I don't think it's offensive to Christians. All the Christians I know find Tebow offensive. The whole idea that God would determine the outcome of their football game against another probably equally deserving team just because they prayed more is offensive. The idea that God would intervene THERE but not raise a finger to help out in wars, famines or epidemics... THAT is offensive.

This is funny. For the first time in a long time SNL is funny. It's a miracle! Praise Jesus!

Lol. If Americans are more ready to make fun of Christians it's because:

1. They understand them more. They likely are Christians themselves or know many of them, and are familiar with their culture and beliefs. It's easier to do humor about stuff you know and people you're familiar with.

2. Their audience is likely Christians and know more about Christian beliefs. It's easier to laugh at stuff you know. Most Americans know dick all about Muslim beliefs; there's only so many jokes you can do about turbans and suicide bombing.

3. They respect Christians and know that most of them won't be offended or "can take it". It's often a sign of disrespect to someone or something if you won't joke about it. It's patronizing. Feeling like Christians can take a joke means that you respect them as adults. If I were Muslim I'd feel sad that so few people will make jokes (or even talk about) Muslims; it says something very negative about how they're perceived.

All of these reasons are perfectly positive, and the Jesus in this video was a pretty cool guy. If anything is "offensive" about it, it's the notion that Jesus interferes in football games - it trivializes God. And that is exactly what they're parodying - this earnest, offensive belief.

Two questions.

1: How many of them are practicing?

2: How many of them are sincere?

Given that Christians make up 80+% of the USA, it seems that most of the people who don't care about Christians must be Christian.

VoodooVsays...

saying you're Christian really is a nothing statement anymore.

It means absolutely dick. Because you can be the moderate Christian who doesn't suspend rational thought when it comes to matters of reality, yet still has faith...

...or you can be the abortion clinic-bombing fanatical fundamentalist.

...and everyone in between also gets to call themselves Christian. Every single one of them has a different sense of ethics and morality.

People like to say they're a christian as if it means something or it's the finish to an argument. When everyone from the most extreme to the most casual use it as an appeal to authority..it becomes meaningless.
