Pres. Obama "snaps" at CNN's Ed Henry at press conference

From his televised press conference 3/24/09.

This is being blown out of proportion in the news. This is a much cooler reaction to a politically motivated question than any of our other recent presidents might have had.
volumptuoussays...

Of course it's being blown out of proportion. The establishment media Villagers don't like to be called-out on their collective bullshit.

I'm glad Obama said it. He could've said a lot more. He could've told the Moonie Times reporter that his question about stem cells during an economic clusterfuck, on the day that there is a massive banking plan rolled out, is grounds for expulsion from the press pool.

Darkhandsays...

Yeah they are totally blowing this out of proportion, I thought it was a GREAT response and I was shocked the next day to turn on CNN and they were like
"OBAMA EVISCERATES ED HENRY, FAMILY OF FOUR LEFT FATHERLESS" and crap.

It's a perfectly legitimate answer, they also are trying to play this whole "Obama dodged the question" how is it dodging the question? If it took you a few days to look at everything before you wanted to answer isn't that an answer??? Did Obama need to explain what he was doing everyday up until he answered so people would know if he was truly focused on what was most important in THEIR eyes?

Gah!

Just an FYI, I was watching CNN the other day and one "iReporter's" response to Obama's speech was "He takes too long to answer questions. I mean, after the first two sentences I space out CMON!"

Which comes back to my original point of killing stupid people so we have less to worry about.

I found the lady I was talking about, in her defense she said "After the first two sentences" *rolls eyes*

Here is a column Ed Henry wrote about the "incident":

What a dark day in world affairs when all it takes for us to consider something a witty retort is for a leader to answer a reporter's question with A SENSIBLE FUCKING ANSWER. Move along people, all this does is make me feel better about thinking obama is NOT a toolbag, and that bush was a toolbag inside a toolbox.

Churchill:
Lady Nancy Astor: Winston, if I were your wife, I’d poison your tea.
Churchill: Nancy, if I were your husband, I’d drink it

BOOM.

Bessie Braddock: Sir, you are drunk.
Churchill: And you, madam, are ugly. But in the morning, I shall be sober.

POW.

Young man (after seeing Churchill leave the bathroom without washing his hands): At Eton they taught us to wash our hands after using the toilet.
Churchill: At Harrow they taught us not to piss on our hands.

KAPOW.

Let's get some real fucking genius wit back into politics, can we? (no, this doesn't demonstrate churchill's genius, but trust me he was)

(DISCLAIMER THESE ARE NOT NECESSARILY DEMONSTRATIVE OF REALITY AND RYCHAN SNIFFS WOMEN'S BICYCLE SEATS......this is also unsourced!)

1) You're comparing Churchill's private conversations to a news conference by Obama.
2) Those quotes by Churchill are all unsourced. We don't know if they actually happened. http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill

Deanosays...

My understanding is that Obama doesn't get hit by too many hard questions - maybe conditioned behaviour from under W.

Not that this was a hard question but do you think he's getting an easy ride?

1) yawn
2) snore
3) you're taking it all too seriously.. if you want to experience churchill's genuine genius, read his quotes page on wikipedia and be amazed, don't come expecting them on a video posting website, all you'll get here is sarcasm and hopefully a few funny observations
4) i'll edit the comment for you if it's not up to your high standards.. happy now!?

It was a legitimate question. Bush was justifiably harped on for not reacting 'fast enough' after 9/11... Not reacting 'fast enough' after Katrina... Now the news media harps on the man-child for not acting fast enough with AIG and you whine about it? Oh - I see... :eyeroll: When BUSH acts slow it is because he is out of touch and stupid. When OBAMA acts slow it is because "he wants to know what he's talking about first..."

It really is amazing just how much of this guy's Flavor-Aid some people will frantically guzzle to justify hypocrisy. They when they start keeling over and dying from Obama's poison they'll try to think of some way to blame someone else for it.

Winstonfield_Pennypackersays...

Comparing Obama delaying remarks about AIG bonuses to Bush's reaction time for 9/11 and Katrina is 100% stupid.

They are not the same "kind" of events, but both of them were disasters the outrage the public and are wide-spread in the effect they have. The 'reaction time' accusation applies to the President for any major news story that impacts the country like that.

The POTUS doesn't live in a bubble. He's got advisors that instantly brief the guy on anything important within a minute of it hitting the news. The furor over AIG has been going on for two weeks. It is fair to criticize both Bush and Obama for taking too long to react to events that causing an uproar or destabilize things. You may not LIKE it if you are an Obama fanboi who dares not hear anything bad about him. Cowboy up and admit the man-child screwed up on this one. Admit that it is perfectly fair for the media to bring it up his mistakes. Admit that your boy also pretty much sucks big-green zombie ones at taking criticism. Bush ignored all criticism like a brick wall. Obama's reaction to criticism is to chew out everyone and whine like a little baby.

fuck the "outrage", just raise the top marginal income tax rate to 80%, and eliminate all income/payroll taxes on people who make less than 50k (being sure to define a smooth transition region so that there is no local maximum where additional income does not result in additional after-tax income) That will jumpstart the economy by increasing consumer spending, since poor people have a much higher marginal propensity to spend than rich people. There is no lack of capital investment -- there is an excess of it, which is what inflated the bubble in the first place.

MaxWildersays...

WP, you are really failing at being a troll. Try to come up with something a little better than comparing the deadly urgency of 9/11 and Katrina to the teakettle tempest of AIG's .2% bonuses.

Deanosays...

I think WP might have a point here. The AIG payments have clearly touched a nerve with alot of Americans so it's a big issue for them. The fact that Obama does have a well-oiled publicity machine means he should have been able to manage this better.

What I would love to see in the U.S system is the kind of slanging match you get in the English Parliament where the Prime Minister is made to work and think on his feet. This press conference felt stage-managed and maybe that's the accepted practice but he was hardly having to dodge missiles here. I think you can ask those sorts of questions without appearing disrespectful.

Brown does a press conference now (maybe not too recently though) and I recall him getting battered by some of the journalists. It keeps them honest

volumptuoussays...

^ What I think most people are having a problem with is the completely fucking stupid questions the press was asking during one of the worst financial crises in US history.

We don't get many press-conferences, so when you hit the jackpot and get to ask the POTUS a question, make it a fucking pertinent one or shut the fuck up. These pseudo-journalists are more interested in "making news" (precisely what Chuck Todd and Ed Henry stated) than reporting it, you fail the country.

The last one did.

Exactly. Now we have a Pres who goes on talk shows, can form complete sentences, and doesn't have his VP's hand jammed up his ass 24/7, making his mouth move.

Oh noes! Ask dumb questions!

quantumushroomsays...

Not that this was a hard question but do you think (Obama is) getting an easy ride?

"Easy ride" is an understatement. These so-called journalists (the "real" ones, not those biased devils at FOX) don't do any investigative reporting or question authority when it's "their" team at bat. They are useful idiots and might as well get checks directly from this White House.
