Policewoman Kills Hostage Taker Solo

I'm sure this won't be controversial.

Yeah, I downvoted. I don't believe videos like this contribute anything of value to the Sift. There are plenty of other sites where you can go to watch people getting horribly maimed or killed. VideoSift shouldn't be one of them, IMO.

As a reminder from the VideoSift submission guidelines:

3. Please do not post pornography or "snuff" films (which we define as the explicit depiction of loss of human life displayed for entertainment).

Note: The presence of human fatality is acceptable and not considered "snuff" if presented as a limited portion of a lengthy educational, informative news report or documentary. Our definition of "snuff" does include but is not exclusive to any short clip in which a human fatality occurs whether or not any victims are actually visible on camera.

I'll leave it to other Sifters to decide whether this video runs afoul of the guidelines or not.

I saw this video about a week or so ago. I thought about sifting for the policewoman's heroism and her nonchalance, but ultimately decided that this was basically a snuff film.

So, I downvote as well. It is an amazing video, if true, though.>> ^SDGundamX:

I upvoted. I hope it stays.

My litmus test:

If the snuff is the story, boot it out.

If the story has a snuff, it's allowed.

Basically, I think this isn't about watching a man get shot in the face, but an unsuspecting police woman getting her target.

But @messenger put a bad title to it, focusing on the snuff.

What a terrible police action. Yes, I'm glad the hostage was ok, but that was SERIOUSLY reckless. She was too far away from the kidnapper when she opened fire. The hostage could easily have been hit.

Downvoting isn't the way to determine whether it's considered snuff to the Sift. *discuss -ion is.

To me it's not snuff because if the hostage taker had lived, I would still have sifted it. In fact, I would rather he had lived. To me, this is all about the cahones on the policewoman.

longdesays...

All due respect, messenger, downvoting is our way to say we don't want videos of people being killed on the sift. That said, whether or not this meets the sift guidelines on snuff videos is a good topic of discussion.

Gotcha, so whether this is officially considered snuff or not, you'd still downvote? I'm 100% cool with that. Thanks for clearing it up.>> ^longde:

Exactly. Like I said above, I think it's an amazing video, and I thought for a while about sifting it myself. But, the raw killing gave me pause.>> ^messenger:

Sarzysays...

Well, the rules do say that a video is permissible if it is part of an "informative news report," which this does appear to be -- so I vote not snuff.

Deanosays...

What I find offensive is this so-called news coverage. With that translation it feels like some bizarro version of reality. I'm almost expecting this to be a hoax.

Oh wow. Open your mind please. Can't believe nobody has mentioned anything about the goldmine that the rest of this video is. I mean...drugged coke bottles...SHE SHOT HIM FOUR TIMES (he went down after the first!)....reckless tactics which are somehow ok....stressing the crap out of the hostage-taker....and more importantly the fact that this 'snuff' film made it onto Chinese news with descriptors like Hero...epic...awesome. Can you imagine this in the US or UK?

You cant let your mind shut down because of the possibility that its a snuff film when there is so much value in this video.

*reinforced note to self: Don't ef with the police in China.

messengersays...

Exactly. When I wrote, "I'm sure this won't be controversial," I meant I thought people would debate whether the shooter did the right thing in taking him out, or whether she endangered the victom too much. There's tons of content here. This isn't a video of a murder or a suicide. Take the death out and this is still a worthy video.>> ^Confucius:

While I understand that the life of a hostage taker has lower priority, that looked insanely dangerous, and an unneessary escalation of force, not that I'm any expert. Shots 2,3, and 4 all seemed unnecessary for ay purpose except to guarantee fatality.
