Penn Jillette in a room full of dummies

Something about blaming gun violence on video games.
newtboysays...

So, if playing Call Of Duty means you can't hug/love your family, doesn't military service mean the same thing to a much greater degree, so logically those that have served in the military should be shunned and feared?

That was some serious ridiculousness and baseless, fact free, illogical arguments coming from 3/4 of the panel.
*quality interjection of a tiny bit of fact and reason by Penn

"call of duty is art. It is not some sort of propaganda thing"

Er, some of it kinda is. CoD can be pretty jingoistic and the later instalments especially espouse some questionable moral positions on all kinds of issues.

That doesn't mean it is any less deserving of free speech protection.

Another way in which it's a propaganda thing is that the publisher of Call of Duty pays licensing fees to arms manufacturers, who then get editorial control over the light in which the gun is portrayed.

I actually think they are all correct to some degree.

Speaking from personal experience, growing up in a household where you don't feel like you can rely or speak to someone when you really need it does making growing up tough. If you don't have supportive friends to make up for the lack of "love" you get at home, the world can seem like a pretty awful place.

At the same time video games provided me with an escape from that reality (where others might have turned to drugs or perhaps violence).

So I can see where both arguments are coming from.

Different people will be inspired by different things. Wasn't the guy that killed John Lennon inspired by "The Catcher in the Rye"?

The blame is on the parents ultimately though, because the child should have never gotten to the point where they see violence as an option.

Upvote for accurate title of the year. Who is the black woman in the blue outfit. My Asperger's son would like to send a pointed message to her, something to the effect of what an ignorant douche she is.

Fuck me, what a bunch of A-grade twats. These sorts of programs are the lowest of the low and frankly I'm surprised he even agreed to go on there.

But I gotta give it to Penn for not only tolerating that absolute bullshit FUD propaganda those women were trying to pass off as fact but also keep his cool and refute their claims so eloquently the whole time.

Enlightenment really needs to get out there a lot more.

Very appropriate title.

Eric did mean everyone on camera is a dummy, right? I like Penn, I like his schtick, but the man's an idiot. Teller's the brains. Penn's a Libertarian! QED.

Yep. I stopped playing the series because they began creating fiction about current scenarios, and to me that just seems irresponsible and incredibly stupid. The level of pro-western pro-militancy was too much.

Yeah, modern-combat games are always pitting you against a caricature of the current political boggyman.

Even if it's not intentional, it's still manufacturing consent regarding political support for military interventions.

That said, a game's a game. COD was fun. Particularly 4 and 5.

Based on this video and the "logic" employed therein, one could reach the conclusion that all women are delusional, unintelligent, clueless idiots who shouldn't be allowed to speak on any topic.

...But a logical person would not blame *all* women, only *these* women.
