Palestinian boy throws rock at car and gets hit

Palestinian children demonstrating Silwan in Jerusalem threw rocks at passing Jewish cars
Fusionautsays...

Well, next time he's throwing rocks at cars he'll probably stand on the side of the road instead in front of a moving car that weighs 4,000 lbs!!! When you're protesting you should always be thinking of your own safety.

Also, all of those adults were more preoccupied with filming the incident rather than helping the boy. Then they shoved him into that van rather forcibly. This video is ridiculous!

Reminds me of an old story on the news around here. Guy was off his meds or nuts or something. Goes down a block picking up pieces of concrete from the medium divider that were falling apart and throwing them through drivers windows. One older black guy sees him doing this as he's coming down the road toward him, sees the guy is going to chuck one through his window...so he runs the guy over. When the guy starts to get up to finish throwing the chunk, old dude reverses and runs him over again leaving the car on top of him. Leaves it there until police arrive.

*Sigh. And how does all this help. What did the person driving the car do other than be an Israeli? Do we know what their political views are? They are driving their car and are assaulted by little boys, being egged on by adults or what appear to be adults.

Someone should have called the police or local authority. This is embarrassing to everyone involved.

I like how you use the words "demonstrating" when, in reality, it's little boys throwing rocks at cars. Call it what you want to call it, but it doesn't take oppression or a just cause to get kids to do that.

I was going to say this video summed up the cycle of hate in under 1 minute. From an angry child to wanting to kill israelis for the rest of his life.

Then i read the comments ... I'm amazed you all think it's ok to run a child over for throwing rocks. kids do dumb stuff. Any child? your child? your brother? your sister? Or just palestinian children.

Learned consequences? More likely he learned to feel no compassion. In 5 years when he launches a rocket into an Isreali school he'll feel vengeance and justification...

He'll have learned from personal experience: Children are valid targets for violence.

Also, the driver didn't seem to care that he struck a child. Had he done the right thing, he would have ran out and made sure he was alright, despite being pelted by rocks. And what does that teach? Totally what this guy already said:

Lesson for the kids that don't get hit by cars: Stoning people is a perfectly cromulent way to express your disappointment.

The driver was attempting to swerve away from people and was driving under a lot of fear. He was going a little fast but had he gone slow, one of those rocks could have done more than vehicle damage, he does stop when he hits the kid. Now should he get out? Surely not, come on, he would be fucking stoned to death for trying to drive down a street.

Second, violent protesting can suck my dick.

Third, as for the kid and him receiving help. There are people shouting "check the boy, check the boy", moments after he gets hit. As for being rough on him, you can see the boy is actively resisting aid, he did not seem to want to get in that car.

It's not just "kids throwing rocks" - there's a large group of people, including adults. The adults don't appear to be throwing rocks though, but some of them have video cameras. It appears they're just waiting for something like this to happen so they can post an edited version online or sent it to Al-Jazeera as further evidence of Israeli abuse. It's not "dumb stuff", it's generating propaganda to justify further acts of violence.

I don't think it's okay for kids to be run over ever, but I think some of those adults deserve to be hit by cars for putting those children in that situation - they should know better.

I totally agree with what you said, but I offer this: at what age does a younger human cease to require the watchful eye of a coddler?

I do not support the idea of photographers waiting at the edge of monstrosities for that perfect shot, but I also do not support the idea that a 10+ year old is not aware of vehicles or what one feels like when it strikes him. I played in a neighborhood for over a decade, but I knew from day one that, child + car + impact = car.

Also, the photographers are not their parents and are in hostile territory. They cannot reason with the younger men for fear of the Arab kids children that don't look like me, alerting deadly daddy. They are left only to film and react to what happened, hopefully without their influence.

James Paul Gee in his book about Video Games and Learning talks about an Internet 1st person shooter that went up showing the Palestinian conflict from the Palestinians point of view. In the game you become a "freedom fighter." You start by throwing rocks at Jewish soldiers and settlers and later on progress to more advanced weaponry. The game met with widespread condemnation from the West and is no longer available.

However, Gee made a very interesting point about the game. In the game, no distinction is made between Jewish civilians and soldiers. Both are framed in the game as invaders that must be expelled. Gee makes the claim that this gives insight into how the game designer felt about the conflict in real life and that--possibly--we too can gain some insight into the Palestinian conflict. Hopelessly outgunned by a technologically superior army, unable to bring equal negotiating power to the table since the U.S. backs Israel, many Palestinians (including the game designer, apparently) feel that resorting to violent resistance--even that which targets civilians--is the only way to restore the balance of power. By doing so, the Palestinians can forced the Israelis to treat them on more equal terms, since the Palestinians can use the offer of reining in such violence as a bargaining chip at the negotiating table. Gee claims that by playing and pondering the game, he was able to consider a point of view he'd never really thought about before.

I'm not saying that point of view is right or moral in any way. Just trying to point out that what we're seeing in this video likely is not "kids gone wild" but in all likelihood part of a larger geo-political game that both sides (Israeli government and Palestinian government) are playing--though the kids themselves are most likely unaware they are pawns in the game. Frankly, I pity them.

"I'm amazed you all think it's ok to run a child over for throwing rocks."

Are you blind? A large and angry mob is throwing stones at cars because of the driver's nationality. If the driver stopped and waited they stand a very good chance of getting rocks in their face after their windows have been smashed. They've also got a decent chance of being kidnapped or killed. Stopping was very possibly suicide.

"In 5 years when he launches a rocket into an Isreali school he'll feel vengeance and justification."

Which is exactly what all the adults encouraging and filming these kids are hoping for. Both the driver and the child are the victims here, though the child is plainly old enough to know the driver probably doesn't appreciate being pelted with rocks.

MycroftHomlzsays...

I am trying so hard not to resort to name calling...

Did the person driving the car steal his home land? Are they even Israeli? Are they adults? Is it a woman? Do they have kids in the car? You don't know SO much about these people. You don't even know anything about the little boys throwing the rocks.

There is so much you don't know. But like absolute babbling gaggle of geese you just jump on one band wagon or the other. The ignorance and assumptions are astounding.
