Opposed Piston Engine

Achates Power is claiming an up to 30% more fuel efficient than today's engines by reviving the opposed piston engine, where two pistons share a cylinder and come to one another. Intended apparently as an interim step while we adapt to electric cars or to act as the gas backup in hybrids. Notable here is that it is a two stroke engine and seems far enough off, I'm not sure of its market value, but interesting as I've never heard of opposed piston.
