On a road racing bike, how does he does these stunts?

I don't get it. Apparently, this guy watched someone else's road bike stunt video and figured; well, I can do that.

And then, he does that.

From the YouTube post:

"Martyn Ashon's Road Bike Party inspired Brumotti to change his trials riding to using a road bike and take it to a whole new level, showing off his incredible riding skills. From the Tinkoff Saxo team bus, to Italian quarries via the Californian sunshine, Road Bike Freestyle 2 showcases Vittorio's incredible riding around the world

Vittorio rides a Montante bike with FSA components, Vision wheels and Crank Brothers pedals. We're grateful to Expo Milan 2015 and Livigno for help with locations and the rest of Brumotti's sponsors, EICMA, Tinkoff Saxo, Multipower, Lotto, Hot Wheels, Sportful, SBS, Carrera, Limar, Incomedia and City Time for their support."

Pretty sure that's highway 1, not 101. ;-)
I wonder what forest that is. Amazingly, those trees looked a little small to me when compared to the ones in my neighborhood.

When I was a teenager I had a good racing road bike that I found a set of narrow knobbies for and I used to ride it down dirt trails. It's not easy. Those handle bars are narrow and positioned low, making it all too easy to just go over the front. Impressive skill this guy has, and balls of hardened titanium.

I'm not terribly afraid of heights but the riding the rail along the Highway 101 cliffs put my heart in my throat for a minute. Cool vid

It is Route 1, along the California coast.
And it's breathtaking.
And he's nuts.
lol

It's amazing that despite all the amazing precision, the part that sticks out most for me is him driving over that arc thingie. I honestly might be able to do that myself with a thousand attempts, a safety harness and a crane, but for some reason it sticks out.

Have to agree with andyboy that the editing could have used some work. It seemed more than half about "let's do a quick stunt at this scenic location and then pop to somewhere else" than "let's explore the skills of the rider". This was just a taste of how ample and numerous those skills are.

Only time you'll ever see a road biker with flat pedals

My initial response was that this is mental, but it isn't that insane when you think about it. Trials bikes are almost closer to road bikes than mountain bikes these days (rim brakes, no suspension, etc), so the skills would transfer.

Just goes to show it's the rider, not the bike. (which explains why I still suck at mountain biking even on my flash new bike )

BTW, just to clarify, this isn't a road bike who decided to try these stunts, it's a (world class) trials biker who decided to try it on a road bike.

History is littered with people who tried amazing things and payed a heavy price for it. I think the world would be a much more boring place without those people.

And I'm sure you can remember many times in your life where you survived something silly only to think back later "What the fuck was I thinking???". I know I've had more than a few close shaves where my life could have ended and become one of those cautionary tales on the evening news.

Can't help a few mixed feelings, given that Martyn Ashton, credited as an inspiration, is now paralyzed.

OK - so I had pause and quickly state that the second trick area reminded me immediately of Fallout New Vegas mining area with the Deathclaws. I may want to consider taking a break from the game.
