New High-Efficiency Perovskite Solar Cells

From YT: Stanford and Oxford scientists have created novel solar cells from crystalline perovskite that could rival and even outperform existing silicon cells on the market today. The new design converts sunlight to electricity at efficiencies of 20 percent, similar to current technology but at much lower cost.

In the video, Professor Michael McGehee and postdoctoral scholar Tomas Leijtens of Stanford describe the discovery, which could lead to thin-film solar cells with a record-setting 30% efficiency. No mention of how far from actual production though that these technologies are. They predict 30% efficiency in 3-5 years, but not guesses on how far from production the technology is. If they can push 30%+ at super affordable rates though...
