NMA: Kim Jong-il funeral takes place in Pyongyang.

"North Koreans braced icy conditions and lined the snow covered streets of Pyongyang on Wednesday, the first of two days of remembrance events for late 'Dear Leader' Kim Jong-il.

Kim died of heart failure on December 17 after having ruled the nation since his father Kim Il-sung's death in 1994. He was aged 69.

The funeral is also set to serve as a vehicle for the succession of Kim's chosen heir, youngest son Kim Jong-un, who is set to become the third generation of his family to lead the reclusive, nuclear armed state. DPRK's state media has dubbed the 29-year-old as the state's 'great successor,' 'supreme leader' and 'sagacious leader'."
