I think it's more than that and you can tell by his reaction to himself at the end of it. It's probably closer to a Pavlovian response than a conscious ritual: make a free throw, get rewarded with fives.
bcglorfsays...Don't over think this guys. He's joking around, sports players have been known to do that sometimes after scoring points in a game.
