Because it cuts costs. A surprisingly large number of scenes are shot green screen these days, even those that don't seem to require any "special effect" added.
bareboards2says...I thought it might also have been a reshoot -- rather than go back and try to recreate the place again, they had establishing shots so they could recreate after the fact if they needed to.
I just made that up, though. My answer to the puzzle, without doing a lick of research.
