"The Thing That Should Not Be" is one of two Metallica songs about H.P. Lovecraft's destructive extraterrestrial entity named Cthulhu. The film clips in the video are from the 2005 film "The Call Of Cthulhu," based on Lovecraft's story. They made it a silent B&W film to give it the feel of 1926, when the story first came out.
