As both a human being and a former US Marine, I find this behavior deplorable and sickening. I hope that these individuals are quickly identified and face the full extent of the law.

Not only are the actions barbaric, but they also threaten to undo any "good" our mission in Afghanistan has tried to achieve; it undermines whatever positive influence we may yet possess on the Arab Street; it emboldens our enemies and critics; and it disgraces USMC forces who have and continue to serve with honor.

I'm not seeing the problem here. They were shot dead. They should not have been fighting in the first place knowing they would be killed. Soldiers need to be allowed to be soldiers. Many of the U.S. Soldiers are busy getting themselves killed because corrupt Afghan officials keep Fing things up. If soldiers could be soldiers and not peace keepers there would be no war because everyone in Afganistan would be dead that fought back. Instead we try our best not to insult the population and putting ourselves into bad situations with a No Win Scenario. What is really worse: Peeing on a dead body or bombing city after city with incendiary bombs (WW2)? We should treat this war exactly as the Taliban do to beat the Taliban. We call ourselves an Advanced Society, but if we really were advanced we would not have the need to fight. Besides, an uneducated society is not working on the same level as the U.S. Morals are the last thing on the Taliban's minds.

How we treat our dead is equally as important as how we treat the living.

Well, this is what happens when you combine:
1) Training people to kill, and as such treat the enemy as subhuman as a way to handle doing that
2) Men who aren't that bright to begin with
3) Video games like COD etc. which have reduced warfare and killing to be 'fun', and teaching the correct response to a victory to be tea bagging or worse.

I guarantee that these men see the Taliban as less than human, and if asked if they'd piss on a member of their own troop's dead body they'd cry foul and say 'No man, that's disrespectful'. But think that it's ok here because these men were 'the enemy' and 'just towel heads'.

War is fucked on all these levels. It's people killing each other, it's making some people dead, and the alive a bit dead inside.

Fucked up.

It's one thing to kill a person because it's your job.

It's a completely different thing to go out of your way to disgrace that person once they're dead.

Hell, even ancient soldiers knew how fucked up a thing that is to do.
i.e.
"Hector had begged for an honorable burial in Troy, but Achilles was determined to humiliate his enemy even in death"

One of the cornerstones of military service is respect & honor.
This further illustrate that stereotypical American has neither.

Who cares if they won that battle?

All these soldiers have done is created more propaganda for Al-Qaeda & the Taliban and ensured the resentment of all U.S. troops in the region for decades more.

They dehumanize them so they can live with the psychological ramifications of killing repeatedly. They deserve punishment, and their actions will undoubtedly cause retaliatory desecration of humanity, but sadly, they are just being human.

Put Human beings in an impossible monstrous situation and you cannot be surprised when they turn into monsters. Marines are trained to lose their humanity, so this isn't that surprising to me...especially when you watch your friend die by these people.

I come from a family of marines...I would hope that I or any of my family wouldn't ever dream of doing this. Thing is you never know, I just hold out hope for those exceptional people.
