Judee Sill - Jesus was a crossmaker

Thanks to Rabidness for introducing me to Judee Sill, and thus letting me find out who sang this song!

Youtube: Like her song Crossmaker, Judee sill was a woman who knew about playing out unhealthy and damaging scripts. In this song, my favorite of hers and easily one of my all time favorite songs ever, Judee sings about inability to resist what we know is bad for us, about going into it with the knowledge that we'll be left empty and hurt at the end and playing it out anyway. Judee's life was very much like that. In and out of jail for bad checks, robbery and drug addiction, Judee's music is rich with themes of redemption, love, vulnerability and humility. Classically trained, Judee uses multi-layered overdubs and full orchestral arrangements to create complex melodies and four-part choral harmony that give her songs a texture that intrigues and lends itself to multiple listens. This is the studio recorded version of Crossmaker from her debut album Judee Sill, released in 1971. Her melody here is gorgeous and sentimental and sad, much like the artist herself, who died only 8 years later.
