Jake Lloyd: Ten Years After Star Wars Ep One

This is the original video from SCI FI PI, The SCI FI Channel Australia Blog! Jake Lloyd talks candidly about growing up having acted in Episode One. The interview was conducted at Supanova, Sydney June 2009

Man, he's got some serious anger in there... very sad to see.

I don't blame him for ruining Episode 1... I blame George

But holy cow, he seems like someone who could snap at any moment.

Let's give this a *promote, although it'd probably help to have Anakin somewhere in the title, as I would imagine most people wouldn't know who Jake is.

Ten years... bloody hell!

spoco2says...

^Really? He seemed to hate everyone at school, everyone at university, had some serious hate for some unnamed other person. He sounds like he's got a lot of issues.

If he were a bit more level he would instead be over those people and not have such seething anger at them

kymbossays...

Come on, he seemed quite aware of how it all works. What do you expect of the kid who played Anakin? He would cop abuse every single day of school, and now college. He's accepted his reality, and is waiting for life after being 'that kid from Star Wars'. That would only come from doing something after college. He could be the film-maker who was once the child actor - like Ron Howard.

School is rough enough for the average kid - for the kid who played Anakin it would have been ten times worse. In that context, I think he's fairly well balanced.

Good luck finding a job, you might make more video resumes showing what a complete jaded dickhead you've become.

This guy has a SERIOUS chip on his shoulder. Maybe its all the people who talk about how EP1 ruined Star Wars. Maybe his parents spent every friggin dime he earned? Something bad happened.

Bummer he has such a hatred for everything. EP1, or any of the movies "work" for me, I'm into tuning out with the mindless entertainment. I could give a fuck about the relationship of this film to any others or what it did to "Star Wars" overall.

He makes excuses for it the whole time, the crowd it was made for, GL's decisions. He seems seriously embarrassed by it. Bummer -- worst case result for this guy. He comes off as a real ungrateful ass.

mxxconsays...

disappointing to see him so bitter.
i have absolutely nothing against him, but kinda wasn't expecting him to be so bitter. i can think of a lot more child stars in some bad moves that turned out to be very pleasant.

but then again, at least he was a good enough sport to tolerate this interview.

Paybacksays...

OMFG, all you people hating on the guy for having some anger over the fucktards he's dealt with over the past 10 years. I mean WTF people, some of YOU are judging the guy by the movie for fuck's sake.

Can you even possibly imagine what it's like to have MILLIONS of people throwing that shit at you, thinking that shit about you, day in, day out, for 10 years?

Holy crap, it's a testament to his personality and character that he didn't end a complete crack head like MacCauly Caulkin... and PEOPLE LIKED HIM!!

Thumpersays...

The guy has been working since he's five. He's allowed to burn whatever bridges he wants to at this point. I'm sure he's aware of the possible consequences. I think the part where he says most people in high school thought he would just do whatever he wants to - and then instead he goes to college anyways... this speaks more about his personality than being pissed at kids in high school and college.

notarobotsays...

I think some people in this comment thread have been a little hard on the guy. I think this statement is key to understanding the bitter undertones behind otherwise polite answers to questions about his life:

"I've been working since I was five, and this is the first time I've ever taken a break from doing something."

MacCauly Caulkin is a crack head? I never knew that! That's ridiculous! Last I heard he was married. Shit. Couldn't he just settle for being a pot-head? Smoking crack is such a bad idea, the undo option from the drop down edit menu in your brain gets permanently greyed-out. What is it about fame and mental health?

Deanosays...

After what he's been through he sounds like a cool enough dude. We all have hang-ups and things we can't let go of and he's no different.

Of course I could be wrong but so could the commenters who seem to have a problem with him. The fact is you can't really decide based on a five minute clip.

bareboards2says...

It strikes me that the folks who say he has a chip on his shoulder sound like they have a chip on their shoulder.

If someone put a camera in your face while you spouted your opinions on this guy, I do believe you would be called out as unpleasant and very very chippy.

MaxWildersays...

A chip on his shoulder?????????

WTF are you guys watching!

This is somebody who has built up a wall of defensiveness after being ridiculed for MOST OF HIS LIFE. Everybody knows that movie. Everybody thought he was crappy in it. And he has had to deal with multitudes of assholes for ten of his most formative years! It's amazing he's able to speak about it as rationally as he does in this clip.

Lucas has done severe damage to this guy's life, and you call him ungrateful! Where the hell do you come off saying that!

Yes, deathcow, you deserve that negative comment for being an amazingly insensitive ass.

Alaksays...

Im surprised he hasnt commited suicide. I can only imagine the hard time he had in school and collage. I give the guy props for accually going to school and looking forward to doing something.

so sad... so very very sad... flash in the pan stuff there...

I wonder what the royalty checks are like?

Edit: I think the thing that gets me the most of the slow rocking back and forth... very "Crusty will come... Crusty will come... Crusty will come..."

He and the reporter are hiding from the pitchfork, torch, and handmade-lightsaber wielding mob...

ps. I will admit I've stuffed more than a couple kids into lockers who've looked at me like he is in the thumbnail...
