I do likes the girls asses though.

From Wikipedia:

"The company explains the name Asus as originating from Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology.[6][7] The new organization used only the last four letters of the word in order to give the resulting name a high position in alphabetical listings."

Though, the origin of the name clearly has no bearing on its accepted pronunciation.

What are these two dorks getting upset about? Just because these girls didn't want to show them their "asses", they still took the time to walk over there and start a conversation about fucking laptops! And they seemed generally excited about it and in no way grossed out by these two brooding bastards.

That's a win in anyone's game book.

I originally pronounced it like Isis (as in Isis and Osiris), but then it seemed everyone else was pronouncing it like "aces," so I started doing that.

Now that everyone is going to be pronouncing it like the sneeze, I will pronounce it asses. I like to be different.

The problem with this commercial, clever though it may be, is that if it gets viral enough, I think that "asses" is going to stick, and that will be their name.

Only idiots will correct people on pronunciation of brand names that the company insists on. Most of my techie contacts in computer hardware wholesale or retail call it "Ay-sus", the way it's called since it... forever. Only the idiot sales and marketing people insists that it's called "Ah-soos". Similar things occurs with "SuSE linux" and "Ubuntu linux".

xxovercastxxsays...

I've never heard anyone pronounce it as anything but "Ay-sus" before.

I haven't owned one of their products since two of their Geforce 2 cards and one of their motherboards crapped out, all under warranty, and their support people basically told me to go fuck myself.

But from what I've seen they've greatly improved since then... at least their products have, if not their support.

Nope, their support didn't improve at all. They said that the reason they failed to repair my motherboard and won't try again is because of my misuse but wouldn't say what I did wrong. That happened about a year ago.

Support is still terrible from what I hear as well, but their actual hardware is pretty great.

I've had two netbooks that have worked great, and they make some decent motherboards.

Ugh this ad is pathetic. That aside, I met somebody who worked for Asus (in Taiwan) a few years ago. I called it Ay-sus, she called it Ay-sus and I didn't get any smarmy correction at any point. Who knows.

Agreed. I don't mind low-brow humor at all, in fact I love it. But only when it's well done or clever. This was just *terrible.

Wow! Viral marketing win!

Some random tech company just made you sit and think about their name for about million times longer than you should have. Now there's instant brand recognition for a company that, up till now, hasn't produced anything but niche products.

Wow, what a couple of a-holes. Nice (and hot, and likes tech) girl wants to chat and share, and he wants to correct her, treat her like an idiot, basically be a jerk and add nothing to the conversation.
