Goddamnit Blade Runner, its all your fault for starting this crap!

Although seriously, if I'm watching a movie or TV show these days and they do this crap its an instant WTF GTFO moment for me. Real security cameras are VGA at best (has anyone come across an actual product that uses HDTV grade stuff?) and the definition is laughable to even recognize a face if the person is standing right there in front of it.

The "zoomed out" pictures they show in the clips there are about 4x better definiton than the real thing... I would love it if the stuff here even provided that.

Oh so here's the deal. Computers are the spackle for shoddy writing. Computers are used by Hollywood both to fill in plot gaps and to provide an easy way to wrap up an episode, movie or get past a character's adversity. For more proof...watch "The Italian" job or "Oceans 11/12/13".

As a computer developer, I've grown a hatred for CSI and most TV shows that feature any form of computers. *sigh*

Or "Independence Day" (Did you know that AppleTalk is compatible with ALIEN FUCKING SPACESHIPS? It's true.)
Or "The Net" (Did you know that viruses actually sound like bacon? It's true.)

Or...dare I say..."Hackers". Ok that one, I was unaware that people put up security systems that were like a game with Skeletons. (that was hackers right?)

Machina ex machina.

Hahahaha, I just saw the one from CSI where they find a murderer by enhancing a photo of his reflection on the eyeball of some chick. Not only did they have perfect quality after 100x zoom, but they were also able to rotate the 2D picture in order to get a frontal view of her eye.

Most of the tech in movies and TV is plain bullshit. It makes watching CSI, 24, Law and Order and so many other shows unbearable to watch as a geek.

MaxWilder says...

They did it in Avatar too. It wasn't so horrible as some of these, just one level of zoom and enhance. I would have laughed if I wasn't wincing inside...

There was a film I think it was called "Blow Up" in the 60's that could have been the predecessor for Hollywood's obsession with photography and investigation. It's a great arty & sexy film about a murder in a park. Check it out.
