kronosposeidonsays...Oh man, where's some cat urine when you need it?
Sagemindsays...I want to up-vote this, it's a great movie (of it's day) but...
...And rasch187, you know this as well...
Sift Guidlines strictly prohibit the posting of Full movies. Section 35; Subsection 4 (http://videosift.com/faq-en.php)
I quote:
"Please do not post entire episodes of television shows or movies, unless you know beyond a shadow of a doubt they are in the public domain. That's what BitTorrent is for."
As this movie has had some of the biggest copyright battles of any movie I know of - I'm pretty sure is isn't public domain. I think we should *discuss - Sorry rasch187 - plus we haven't discussed this issue in a while and it's a good idea to bring some of these up again once in a while to see if they still stick.
Cheers!
siftbotsays...This video is being sent to Sift Talk for discussion - discuss requested by Sagemind.
Skeevesays...I'd love to upvote this, but I have to agree that it is not in public domain and, as Sagemind wrote, it has major legal issues associated with it. It wasn't even purchasable for 15 years while the copyright issues got sorted out.
So if we stick by the Sift Guidelines it is not siftable. Would I like having it on the sift if it was within the guidelines? Absolutely.
I'm not a lawyer so maybe someone else could answer the question at hand: would sifting copyrighted material cause problems for VideoSift or only the site actually hosting the video?
blankfistsays...I think that rule sucks. This is a new era. RETURN!
Sarzysays...Not to pile on, but if you're going to use a custom thumbnail, it's supposed to be an actual frame from the video -- so a poster is probably not allowed.

rasch187 however is a lawyer, so maybe he can allay your concerns
Stingraysays...If we're going to single out this video, then perhaps we should look at some of the other full length movies/documentaries that have been posted here:
http://videosift.com/video/Pirates-of-Silicon-Valley1999
http://videosift.com/video/Scratch-The-Movie-Hip-Hop-Turntabilsmist-documentary
http://videosift.com/video/Easy-Rider-full-movie (looks dead now, I just called it)
http://videosift.com/video/Dark-Days-Full-Movie
http://videosift.com/video/Yellow-Submarine-full-movie
These are just a few I came across or have seen already on here. Unless these are all public domain films, they really shouldn't be posted.
I know VideoSift has always had this rule about posting full length movies/shows/whatever, which is why it has already perplexed me why I see so many of them posted.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...It's not our job to police copyright law. We aren't videosource, we are videosift. * return
Sagemindsays...It really just comes down to:
If we have the rule - do we keep it?
Do we enforce it?
Again, what is the point of having rules if we never have to follow them?
If the rule is arcane and outdated, then remove the rule, otherwise enforce it.
What say ye @dag
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Dag says that when these kinds of things are explicitly brought to my attention, I'm bound to act on them.
Sorry @rasch187. *discard.
