True. You don't have to be the fastest to survive an animal attack. Just not the slowest.

Turns out he knew it was fake, he's just really allergic to holly wreaths.

It's slow when the person has yet to form a great deal of biases. I'd imagine the fact that the T-Rex is not a natural predator for humans eliminates any born instinct to run immediately.
