Video Flagged Dead

Future Weapons: The Dillon Gatling gun firing tracer rounds

Lightweight and easy to mount on a variety of vehicles, the Dillon Gatling gun puts on a pretty impressive show when firing tracer rounds at night when mounted on a helicopter. At 3000 rounds/min, the sound alone would scare the hell out of me on a battlefield.

When they use tracer rounds they generally do it at a ratio to normal rounds. Like five to one which is what it looks like they're using in the video. Five normal rounds and one tracer round, which gives you a good impression of how fast that thing is actually firing.

Although this thing is considerably accurate for what it is, you have to remember that, attached to the side of a helicopter, it basically aims like a shotgun. (It's not going to be used a hostage situation or anything.)You just look down the barrel to aim. And if you want to know where your hitting, just look for whatever is exploding in a fiery ball of death and correct your aim from there.

I love shows like this showing the newest stuff that we have available, but I can't stand the host. It's the tone he uses when narrating; sounds like he wants to fuck the thing and that you should want to too. Rubs me the wrong way for some reason...

I agree the host sounds like a dick. Mind you, I assume he's laughing at how stupid he sounds when he says "Extreme Prejudice", so maybe it's just the role/attitude/tone the show directors want, and he's not really a gun-fucking wacko. Or maybe I'm just hopeful? =p

Call me ignorant, but I can't imagine anything we need to fire 3000 RPM at instead of 2000 RPM. At what point is it just ridiculous?

Suppressing fire. You hear that gun, you run. There's no two ways about it. Not to mention that what it really has a stunning effect on is light armored vehicles. You don't even have two shoot at anything for a full second. Just a nice quick squeeze and a thousand rounds say, "No one is getting out of that car."
