Future Crew : Second Reality (Assembly '93)

pho3n1xsays...

it IS good, and it's 1993. YOU try making a demo including 8bit sound, 2d and 3d rendering, and contain it all in 64k. and in 1993. so i suppose yes, that is a funny thing, considering that things like this paved the way for future CGI.
maybe you should post something better.

Second Reality is a demo created by Future Crew for the Assembly '93 demoparty. In the PC demo competition, Second Reality placed first with its demonstration of 2D and 3D rendering. The demo was released to the public in October 1993. It is considered to be one of the best demos created during the early 1990s on the PC.
The effects produced by the demo exceeded what were widely believed to be the limits of PC hardware in 1993. Many techniques used by other demos, including Future Crew's own earlier work, were refined and reused in Second Reality. The demo had a soundtrack of Trance music composed by Skaven and Purple Motion using ScreamTracker 3. The degree of synchronization of the visuals with the music was highly impressive for its time.

You seem to have a bit of an attitude for a Sift n00b, Hoju:

"what a pile of crap. the funny thing is that you seem to think it's actually good. Go 1998 CGI!!! or whatever the fuck this is supposed to be"
You obviously know nothing of either programming, graphics or music (this pages layout and text alone [HTML] is 33 kilobytes - with the images it's 277 kb!) That's why this is impressive: especially as it was done thirteen years ago (not eight!)

P.S: Your empty profile comes in at 148 kb: all nine minutes of the video is 64 kb...

Why is this tagged "64K"? 2nd Reality was around 2 Megs.

It's amazing, and a legend in the scene, but they weren't competing for the smallest size on this one. It was one of the biggest demos ever released at that point.

I'm glad somebody else pointed out that there is no way this was a 64k demo.

Now, on the other hand we have Second Reality C64 which was a 1998 port of second reality to commodore 64.

This definitely was a turning point in my life. I was definitely considering sifting the c64 second reality, but I thought it would be too much of an inside joke. Similarly, somebody made Real Reality: a remake of Second Reality with props instead of computer generated imagery. It would have been much better with the original music. I really dislike their remake of the music.

Oh wow, the 8 minute mark part is giving me BF: 2142 flashbacks - Berlin map...

The stirring response to an outburst of uninformed foolishness was both well played and fair - it's completely senseless to criticize a video in such a childish manner!

The single greatest PC Demo ever... oh the amazement at this thing when it came out, the music is seared into my memory.

And I'm glad that hoju got the caning he deserved for the inane comment.

But yes, a little silly watching a video of it.
