Ford Pinto Explodes when rear ended (4 Secs)

Supposedly Ford knew that a rear-end collision had the potential of explosion so the engineers developed a rubber liner that would have prevented it, but Ford opted to just take the chance because adding the lining was slightly more expensive. The video's cool because you can see the gas gushing from the back. Huge blunder.

Thats not an explosion, that is the thrust from a Pinto's rocket engines. This video is from a secret black-ops NASA program you can watch at (youtube.com/watch?v=9XPCzckUcYY)

This little mishap has nudged this car just above the Gremlin on the worst car ever list.

I have ridden many miles in a Pinto as a kid.
Anyone know the actual statistics of how many real life accidents happened with the whole blowing-up thingy?
