Flight of the Gossamer Condor (Excerpt)

This past week marked the death of Paul B. MacCready, an aeronautical engineer who designed the first functional human-powered heavier-than-air craft. Built out of bicycle parts, mylar, and piano wire, the Gossamer Condor won MacCready the Kremer Prize for human-powered flight in 1977. He won again in 1979, when the Condor's successor, the Gossamer Albatross"> successfully flew across the English Channel.

This clip is an excerpt from the 1978 Oscar-winning short subject documentary about the Condor's development and flight.
